Come and join Bristol Myers Squibb for this key role helping to build a leading CAR T Platform that serves our patients with novel CAR T Therapies. At BMS, we are developing novel cellular immunotherapies based on two distinct and complementary platforms - Chimeric Antigen Receptors (CARs) and T Cell Receptors (TCRs) technologies. Our goal is to revolutionize medicine by re-engaging the body's immune system to treat cancer.

The Senior Engineer in this role will lead a team of engineers in the Global Manufacturing Sciences and Technology Lab in Seattle. The team is responsible for executing late-stage, business-critical activities related to liquid raw materials, buffer and reagent formulation improvements for commercialization and post-commercial support of cell therapy processes.

Major job duties include:
  • Direct management of 3-4 engineers; providing technical leadership for experimental design, execution, data interpretation and report writing.
  • Support the late-stage development of liquid raw material improvements including, container closure, automated formulation, sterile filtration and second sourcing to meet business needs and manufacturing requirements
  • Provide scientific leadership on technical teams for raw material changes and improvements
  • Leadership/mentorship for direct reports to support business goals and career development
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, other GMS&T functions, and technical development groups to achieve GMP process solutions
  • Provide technical content for significant documents such as PPQ or comparability assessments, author content for regulatory submissions


Basic Qualifications:
  • PhD in Biological Science, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline with 4 years development / manufacturing technologies experience, MS with 6 years or BS with 8 ormore years development / manufacturing technologies in pharmaceutical industry
  • Strong understanding of bioprocess unit operations, especially cell culture.
  • Extensive knowledge of regulations, current industry practices, and experience with interpretation and application of guidelines and regulations
  • A strong mindset for high-quality, meticulous, and consistent execution of manufacturing processes and/or analytics
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to convey complex technical issues to diverse audiences including internal teams, external partners, and health authorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work across multiple stakeholders and customers
  • Sound experience of data handling and applied statistics


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2-3 years of experience in cell therapy technical operations
  • Experience developing and implementing sterilizing grade filtration
  • 2 years of direct management experience
  • Experience with commercial product support, i.e. post-marketing commitments, life-cycle changes, comparability
