Job Description:

This highly matrixed role is accountable for integrated business operations across the internal and external Product Development (PD) network, including vendor management tools for PD external-facing resource, vendor-transactions, resource utilization/analysis, and the PD knowledge management strategy.As a partner to the PD Senior Leadership team, the role partners closely with leaders globally in PD, Finance, R&ED and the broader GPS organization to enable the Product Development business to run efficiently and anticipate future operational needs, trends and opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Accountable for external network operations and vendor transactions within the global PD external development and manufacturing network.Develops vendor management tools for PD external-facing teams across sites and countries.
  • Partners with IT and PD leaders to advance the integrated PD knowledge management strategy and related systems.
  • Partners with PD leaders globally and with Business Insights & Analytics (BIA) to design and monitor PD performance measures and metrics that inform decisions on operational and organizational health and identifies opportunities for operational effectiveness improvements.
  • Accountable for development, tracking and management of PD annual objectives to enable clear linkages between PD priorities and the PD and GPS strategic plans.Accountable for external CMC external benchmarking exercises to inform future directions for PD.
  • Accountable for PD headcount and resource utilization analysis, as well as resource forecasting for PD in collaboration with BIA and other PD functions, to assess PD's ability to execute for current and future portfolio and operational needs.
  • Accountable for PD Operations department business operations, strategy development and performance. Accountable to VP of PD Operations.
  • Leads and sets the agenda for the PD senior leadership, including meeting management to ensure that topics drive critical PD business activities.
  • Manages 3-5 business operations professionals and analysts.

Professional experience and qualifications:
  • Advanced degree (M.S., Ph.D. preferred) in a technical discipline; MBA a plus.
  • 12+ years of experience in drug development with direct experience in CMC development, business operations, external-facing roles, matrix leadership, managing direct reports, and managing stakeholders at all levels including senior leaders.
  • Excellent cross functional communications skills and a decisive yet collaborative leadership style.
  • Strong influencing/persuasive skills with a demonstrated ability to influence different styles at different levels in organization. Demonstrated ability to successfully influence and interact with senior leader stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with project management principles and application including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and evaluate priorities.
  • Excellent cross-functional communications skills and a decisive yet collaborative leadership style.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
