Position Title: Senior Research Associate (Research Associate III)

Position Summary

Are you interested in learning about state of the art vaccine development? Are you passionate about making a scientific impact combatting infectious disease? At Vaxart we are creating novel oral vaccines that target the COVID-19 virus (SARS-CoV-2), Influenza, Norovirus and Human Papillomavirus. Our mission is the promotion of global health through the development of effective vaccines that can be administered by tablet rather than by injection, providing for the simple and efficient distribution and administration of safe vaccines in any setting. 

We are seeking a self-motivated, organized and energetic Senior Research Associate (Research Associate III) to join our R&D team to support advancing our vaccine platform in pre-clinical studies and clinical trials. 

Position Responsibilities 

  • Plan, execute, analyze, and interpret immunological assays that support the clinical development of our vaccine candidates with minimal supervision
  • Strong capacity to take on new tasks and techniques with an ability to juggle needs across multiple parallel projects 
  • Lead/ and or assist in writing and revising SOPs
  •  Support day-to-day operations, service, and troubleshooting for the available equipment in the lab
  • Procure, organize, and maintain inventory of materials needed for experiments 
  • Operate, collaborate, and communicate effectively with other R&D team members

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Molecular and/or Cell Biology, Immunology, Microbiology or relevant discipline 
  • 5+ years of laboratory experience in either an academic or industry setting developing and executing a variety of immunoassays
  • Hands on experience in mammalian tissue cell culture and sterile technique 
  • Experience with basic molecular biology and biochemical techniques, such PCR/qPCR, western blotting, nucleic acid extraction, and ELISA 
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and organization skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Team oriented with strong work ethic

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Master’s degree in a science-related field with strong conceptual knowledge of immunology
  • Expertise in flow cytometry-based assays is a major plus 
  • Direct experience with in vivo studies conducted in mice, including mouse handling, blood and tissue collection, and performing routine injections 
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office and proven ability to perform scientific data analysis using statistical tools such as GraphPad Prism, JMP, or others
  • Previous biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry experience
