Job Description

NextCure is a start-up biopharmaceutical company located in Beltsville, MD, and focuses on the discovery and development of novel immunomedicines for the treatment of cancer and other diseases. We are seeking a highly motivated Business Development Manager to identify and analyze collaboration and licensing opportunities from a scientific, clinical, commercial, operational, and strategic fit, and present to a larger business team to assist in developing appropriate business structures and positioning to advance those opportunities to transaction.  The candidate must thrive and adapt to a fast-paced, innovative and changing environment.


  • Scout and outreach to companies and academic institutions with innovative technologies, therapeutics, and opportunities in line with the company strategic interests
  • Build presentations and define stories to best position innovative and novel programs to potential partners
  • Evaluate deal structures and maintain deal structure database
  • Lead due diligence activities and cross-functional teams to assess opportunities
  • Directing the scope, timeline, budget, resources and milestones for collaborations
  • Actively lead internal cross-functional teams to manage resources, budgets and timelines to ensure the effective delivery of project milestones
  • Conduct business and competitive analyses on innovative technologies and therapeutic candidates using relevant scientific and clinical publications and patents
  • Build and maintain a competitive intelligence database
  • Perform landscape analyses to identify business leads in specific therapeutic areas
  • Provide general operational support, including business analysis

Required education and experience

  • Graduate degree: PhD, MD, or MBA, with 3+ years of experience in a biotechnology or pharmaceutical company

  • Multi-task and pro-actively manage shifting responsibilities
  • Knowledge of drug development, technology licensing and intellectual property management
  • Working with diverse functional teams to coordinate activities and to achieve project goals
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, critical thinking, organizational and planning skills
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to think on feet
