Job Description

NextCure is a biopharmaceutical company located in Beltsville, MD, and focuses on the discovery and development of first-in-class biologic therapeutics for the treatment of cancer and other immune-related diseases. We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Director Business Development to lead, develop, and implement strategies to expand new business opportunities and to enter into value-added partnerships. The candidate will analyze and identify creative collaboration and licensing opportunities from a scientific, clinical, commercial, operational, and strategic fit, and will develop appropriate business structures and positioning to advance these opportunities to transaction. The role requires a high energy and enthusiastic individual with a tenacious personality and a strong desire to achieve. The ideal candidate should have a genuine interest in learning, working with urgency, capable of reading situations, inspiring respect, doing the thinking for others, and constantly adapting to changing environments.


  • Promoting NextCure as a partner of choice
  • Scouting and outreaching to companies and academic institutions with innovative technologies, therapeutics, and opportunities in line with the company strategic interests
  • Building presentations and defining the stories to best position innovative and novel programs to potential partners
  • Evaluating, designing, prioritizing, and executing different and creative collaboration structures on an on-going basis
  • Leading due diligence activities and cross-functional teams to efficiently assess opportunities
  • Directing the scope, timeline, budget, resources and milestones for collaborations
  • Negotiating and drafting agreements (CDA, MTA, licensing agreement and term sheet)

Required education and experience

  • Graduate degree: PhD or MD
  • 8+ years of experience with past roles in a corporate or business capacity in the biotech/pharma industry or consulting firm


  • A strategic thinker with outstanding business instincts who can create and drive opportunities into actionable and value-added transactions
  • An entrepreneurial mindset passionate for scientific innovation with a proficient scientific, product development, and clinical understanding of relevant therapeutic areas
  • A mediator of solutions, seeking alignment among key stakeholders and capable of thinking on his/her feet
  • Seeing the big picture and acting in anticipation of future needs or necessary adjustments for achieving the desired objectives
  • Outstanding analytical and communication skills to clearly articulate complex and abstract issues
  • Comprehensive experience with technology licensing and intellectual property management
  • Proven ability to efficiently lead multiple projects in parallel
  • Demonstrated active roles in transactions in the biotech/pharma industry
