JOB SUMMARY

The Director of EH&S leads the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) organization and practices across the entire Arranta Bio organization. He/She is responsible for establishing a zero incident culture in a fast-paced environment by driving the activities of personnel in the EHS department and influencing stakeholders across the organization. Areas of responsibility may include but are not limited to occupational safety and health concerns including physical, chemical and/or biological hazards, process safety, workers compensation, incident investigations, safety training, safety inspections, investigations for incident reports, ensuring workplace conditions comply with global occupational health and safety standards, maintaining EPA permits and paperwork systems, coordination of hazardous, pharmaceutical and biological waste handling, storage and disposal, and coordination of committees and specific improvement teams.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

  • Guide and promote employee health and safety performance by developing health and safety systems, policies and procedures and programs to prevent occupational injuries and illnesses, and enhance the overall organizational safety culture resulting in management and employee engagement, and the ambition of zero unsafe conditions and behaviors.
  • Provide technical consultation that includes assessment and management of EH&S issues and risks arising from operations, to prevent incidents, protect company assets and ensure business continuity.
  • Inspect, assess, monitor, investigate and/or recommend corrective and preventative actions, conduct trend analysis, document compliance with standards, accountable for incident handling and reporting of EH&S issues.
  • Conduct assessments and inspections as required for environmental and safety regulations. These include: * Job Hazard Assessments * Accident Investigations * Hazard control and Prevention Reports * Tracking and verification of corrective actions * Environmental Impact Assessments * Audits to the Environmental, Health and Safety programs
  • Advances the EH&S objectives and achievement of results through the engagement of appropriate stakeholders throughout the organization including the establishment, management and direction of the site safety committees.
  • Ensure that complaints, incidents, compliance deviations and enforcement actions are fully investigated and work with across entire organization to ensure robust corrective and preventative measures are taken.
  • Establish, maintain, and continually improve a process where employees are encouraged, empowered and enabled to communicate EH&S related questions and concerns
  • Create a sense of urgency and accountability across all functions of the EH&S team and develop the organization to a higher level of effectiveness
  • Informs divisional leadership of safety gaps and areas of concern and provides timely recommendations and ensures corrective action implementation.
  • Establishes, tracks, trends & communicates EH&S KPIs - continually monitor EHS KPI data for leading and lagging indicators and incident submissions to validate information is complete; provides timely updates and reports to key stakeholders as required.
  • Identifies, recommends and ensures employees receive appropriate training.
  • Ensures all required regulatory and customer reporting is completed accurately, approved and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Ensures business continuity & emergency response systems, policies and procedures are in place to manage emergency situations.
  • Facilitates New Hire Orientation Safety Training
  • Manages complex EH&S compliance and performance programs as they relate to the bio-manufacturing industry including process safety, air permitting, employee exposure protection, and chemical waste management.
  • Hire, recruit, coach, and train employees within the EH&S group
  • Other duties as assigned

 


Experience and Skills

 

 

 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Safety, Environmental Engineering or other relevant discipline, or a minimum of 10 years of directly relevant experience
  • Master's Degree and/or relevant professional certifications a plus
  • Minimum 10 years EH&S experience in a manufacturing environment is required
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical or bio-manufacturing industry a plus
  • Must have extensive knowledge of OSHA, DOT/FMCSA regulations
  • Must have strong analytical and data - driven skill set
  • Able to interact with all levels within the organization.
  • Must possess strong leadership, communication and organizational skills.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Problem solver, solution generator.
  • Ability to read regulations, ask questions of regulatory agencies

  • The employee is occasionally required to walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • In the performance of the duties of this job the employee is required to travel occasionally, drive a motor vehicle.
