Job Description

Kite is seeking a scientific leader to guide and oversee the development and implementation of next-generation technologies in cell therapy. This position leads a group with a diverse set of scientific approaches with the goal to improve the efficacy of cell therapy. As a member of the scientific leadership team in Emeryville, you will have the opportunity to build and manage the Platform Enhancements group while collaborating throughout the Kite global research organization to impact the science of multiple preclinical programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

• Lead a team of scientists focused on multiple approaches that incorporate next-generation science into cellular therapy.
• Formulate strategies for biologically enhancing the performance of cell therapy in multiple solid and hematological indications.
• Implement new concepts that influence functionality or fitness of CAR-T or impact the tumor microenvironment into a clear experimental action plan that designs, tests, and establishes a mechanism of action.
• Apply state-of-the-art technologies to design relevant in vitro assays that readout cellular function, activation, and signaling.
• Collaborate across the preclinical research organization to impact scientific strategy while providing the implementation of platform enhancements across multiple programs.
• Provide mentorship and scientific development to junior team members.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
• Ph.D. in Immunology, Cell or Cancer Biology, or a related field with 12+ years of experience.
• Significant industry small molecule or biologics drug-development experience in oncology is highly desired.
• Deep expertise in T cell biology, cancer immunity, or the role of the tumor microenvironment in therapeutic resistance.
• Hands-on management developing timelines of activities that lead a scientific team to advance scientific ideas from concept to deliverables.
• Experience with technologies typically utilized to assess immune cell function in addition to common strategies for gene regulation and receptor engineering.
• Ability to work collaboratively as a team member across multiple functional disciplines, project teams, and research locations.
• Strong organizational as well as excellent oral and written communication skills are required to communicate project status and strategy.
• Supervisory experience is required.
