The Senior Director, Gene Pricing supports the Vice President, Global Patient Access within the Global Patient Access (GPA) function. The role leads the development of global pricing strategies/guidance for assigned in-line and pre-launch brands working cross functionally with global, regional and country teams including pricing, market access, HEOR and commercial. In addition, this role oversees the execution of global pricing guidance.

  • Development and implementation of global pricing and contracting strategies / guidance for our gene therapy platform both inline and pipeline assets and in collaboration with top countries and regions.
  • Diligently surveil environmental trends and industry practices.
  • Provide pricing-related thought-leadership on innovative pricing and contracting models relevant to gene therapies.
  • Apply asset-specific pricing science to develop price narratives in line with the value delivered by Novartis Gene Therapies (GTx).
  • Actively identify value enhancing pricing and contracting opportunities across the product portfolio and work with regions / countries to implement the opportunities.
  • Strategic development and financial evaluation of innovative contracting approaches for GTx gene therapy platform (in collaboration with operational pricing and market access).
  • Works closely with countries / regions to support their pricing needs.
  • Oversees implementation of pricing strategies at regional / country level.
  • Reviews and approves pricing and contracting requests that fall outside of the pricing / contracting guidance.
  • Provides pricing input to key planning processes.
  • Provides strategic input into operational pricing analytics.
  • Manages international reference pricing risks and suggest / monitor launch sequence with input from operational pricing as well as top countries and regions.
  • Drives adoption of pricing tools and resources developed by operational pricing.
  • Enhance information exchange and knowledge sharing across regions.
  • Champion best practice and innovative approaches to pricing to raise pricing capability throughout GTx at both regional and country level.
  • Develops communication strategy for pricing rationale in collaboration with other stakeholders across the organization (e.g. Policy).
  • Develops and communicates presentations for senior management re-view/approval.
  • Assures alignment of pricing strategy with relevant stakeholders, incl. senior leadership.
  • Chair GSPC (Global Strategic Pricing Committee) and RSPC (Regional Strategic Pricing Committee).
  • Commissions and leads strategic pricing research or consultancy projects that enhance pricing capabilities, including insights, methodologies, frameworks, databases and tools.
  • Drives the development of an active, agile and ambitious culture within GPA.
  • Conducts pricing assessments for business development and licensing evaluations.
  • Other related job duties as assigned.

  • A bachelor's of science (or similar degree) with 12 years' experience in global pricing, including new product planning and/or launch and commercialization of innovative, first-in-class specialty pharmaceutical products. Masters with 10 years relevant experience or Doctorate (preferred) degree with 8 years' relevant experience leading global market access, including new product planning and/or launch and commercialization of innovative.
  • Extensive prior experience in pricing (rare diseases preferred).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of access landscape, pricing vehicles and contracting strategies across key global markets (e.g. US, EU-5, Japan).
  • Thorough understanding and knowledge of US healthcare economics and the drivers of pharmaceutical demand, including pricing and reimbursement.
  • Forward thinker who can adapt and grow with the evolving pricing and contracting landscape.
  • Must have strong leadership skills, strategic mindset, ability to manage by influence, excellent oral and written skills and the ability to work well in both a team environment and independently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft applications (e.g. PowerPoint, Excel).
