Purpose:

An engineering professional who, working with little or no supervision, applies scientific knowledge, engineering knowledge, mathematics, and ingenuity to complete assignments related to a specific technical field or discipline. This position provides support and drive for activities that support the overall long-range plan ensuring the department/functions continues to be competitive and meets all required cost, compliance and customer service needs and commitments over this horizon. Works independently with business partners to draft, negotiate and implement projects that maximize value and deliver results expressed in terms of compliance with the functions policies, time, scope and cost. Manages large projects or several projects of low to moderate complexity. A Senior Engineer has general knowledge of other related disciplines beyond their own area of expertise.

Responsibilities of this engineering grade level inherently include and expand upon the responsibilities established for lower engineering grade levels.

  • Responsible for compliance with applicable policies and procedures. Maintain compliance with regulatory agencies, functional systems, ethics policies and project goals.
  • Independently plans and conducts small- to medium-size assigned projects within engineering specialty requiring conventional types of plans, investigations, and/or equipment. Manages multiple, often concurrent, projects and meets deadlines. Responsible for achieving the project's financial targets in support of business objectives. Create comprehensive project plans, budgets, objectives, strategies and deliverables. May manage new product launches to ensure all filling and launch targets are met. Balances multiple demands.
  • Provide engineering support and technical expertise to AbbVie packaging sites per the program's direction.
  • Create commodity material specifications, engineering drawings and manufacturing bills of materials required for new product launches.
  • Qualify and/or finalize secondary packaging designs, container closure systems and combination products to ensure packaging site readiness.
  • Produces unique and cost-effective results. Establishes alternate use possibilities and incorporates flexibility; balances system costs with benefits provided; oversees design work of internal and external consultants, creates/modifies designs for intermediate problems. Integrates financial with technical data. Analyzes complex interdisciplinary problems and identifies their impact; establishes probabilities; draws conclusions reflecting broad business needs.
  • Establish and host periodic updates to management of process. Prepare and present written and oral reports and other presentation to internal and external audiences, including senior level management.
  • Recommends innovative ways to improve performance, quality, and enhance profitability on an ongoing basis; anticipates roadblock and elevate when appropriate.
  • May be responsible for indirect and/or direct management of contract coordinator and/or associated staff including workload management, quality deliverables, and escalation of issues to management when needed.


Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in engineering, science, or closely related discipline is desired, or equivalent technical experience plus demonstrated competence, with a desired 5+ years of significant engineering and/or operational experience. A post-graduate education/degree is desired and may contribute towards the desired years of experience.
  • Has demonstrated competency within a discipline.
  • Possesses a strong technical knowledge and application of concepts, practices, and procedures. Works on problems of complex scope where analysis of situations or data involves multiple competing factors. Demonstrates judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
  • Interacts well with diverse groups within engineering and maintains strong working relationships with internal and external collaborators.
  • Listens to and understands others' points of view and articulates tactfully and respectfully one's own perspective orally, in writing, and in presentations.
  • Works well with other engineers in a collaborative, fast-paced, goal-oriented environment.
  • Possesses interpersonal skills to negotiate and reconcile differences.
  • Has a technical background in health care, medical devices, pharmaceutical, biologics, or similar industries (preferred).
  • Has demonstrated competency with financial systems and in fiscal control.
  • Travel: 25 to 50%
