AbbVie Global Biologics and Virology Research is an integrated, global discovery organization responsible for anti-viral drug research across indications including HIV AIDS, Hepatitis C, and emerging viral syndromes such as SARS-CoV-2. Job Responsibilities:
  • The Discovery sourcing manager will be responsible for developing, implementing and continuously evaluating and optimizing the sourcing strategy of COVID-19 research in alignment with Discovery priorities and needs.
  • They will efficiently manage the external sourcing agreements, and the budgets associated with them, ensuring Discovery goals are met.
  • They will act as a liaison between the suppliers and internal scientists and will be the escalation point for issue resolution.
  • They will identify and implement external innovation to Discovery projects.
  • They will be responsible for awarding external supplies based on performance and deliverables.
  • They will identify cost efficiency opportunities, negotiate with suppliers, implement and track savings, leveraging the collective buying power of Abbvie.
  • In collaboration with the Contract Organization and Finance they will structure the agreements in such a way as to optimize their management and forecasting.
  • They will streamline processes and develop guidelines ensuring internal and external compliance.

Qualifications
  • PhD or equivalent; 4+ years, MS or equivalent; 6+ years, or BS; 8+ years postdoc/industry experience. Advanced degree in related scientific field preferred (e.g., MS or Ph.D. in Virology, Biology, or Chemistry, etc.). MBA or Project Management Institute (PMI), Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.
  • 4+ years of leadership responsibility, is required.
  • Strong management skills with proven effective leadership abilities. Demonstrated ability to lead multi-divisional and multi-functional teams with global aspects.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Experience in managing functional budgets and developing budget forecasts.
  • Strong business acumen and effective negotiation skills.
  • Experience working in a complex and matrix environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to craft compelling business cases that prompt appropriate action.
  • 3+ years of work experience in the area supported (e.g. Discovery, Development) and 4+ years in pharmaceutical, healthcare or regulated industry preferred.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing change management strategies or successful project planning and management of highly complex business and technology initiatives is preferred.
