Responsible for managing daily accounting activities, periodic financial reporting and ensuring an accurate and timely month-end close. Manages all aspects of general accounting including accounts payable and payroll. Process owner for key, complex accounting areas such as revenue, clinical trial accounting, and payroll.


Financial Statement Close
  • Manages the monthly, quarterly, and year end close procedures.
  • Manages the close calendar timeline and assignment of duties for the general accounting and accounts payable teams.
  • Prepares journal entries, account analyses and reconciliations for general ledger accounts.
  • Reviews journal entries and reconciliations prepared by accounting team for accuracy and completeness.
  • Reviews and analyzes operational expense trends to identify any adjusting entries required to accurately finalize the close.
  • Prepares internal financial statements and related reports.
  • Prepares the monthly consolidation of Dx and Rx business financials ensuring elimination and reconciliation of intercompany balances.
  • Responsible for maintaining strategic partnerships cross-functionally to design business processes, facilitate timely payments and ensure reporting accuracy.
  • Oversees reconciliation of multiple bank statements and participates in consolidated cash management and reporting.
  • Maintains the G/L, including: account structure, adding/changing/deleting cost centers, departments and accounts for international subsidiaries.
  • Prepares various quarterly and annual audit schedules.
  • Interfaces with outside auditors and provides requested information during audit periods.

Revenue Accounting
  • Prepares quarterly analysis of collections rates by product to determine rate at which to recognize revenue for non-contracted Dx business.
  • Prepares journal entries to record monthly revenue and adjustments; reconciles accounts receivable.

Clinical Trial Accounting
  • Develop and maintain expense tracking models to capture clinical trial enrollment and related expenses.
  • Maintain effective relationships with Clinical team to ensure timeliness and accuracy of clinical trial accounts.
  • Collaborates with FP&A team to understand and project clinical trial forecasts.
  • Prepares journal entries to record clinical trial activity.

Payroll Accounting
  • Performs all close procedures related to Payroll.
  • Prepares journal entries to record payroll, payroll accruals, bonus accruals, and PTO liabilities.
  • Prepares all payroll-related balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Maintains confidential records and fields questions from employees regarding their pay.

Other Responsibilities
  • Directly manages accounting team including general ledger accounting and accounts payable.
  • Assists in identifying and improving internal controls and ensuring designated internal controls are performed timely.
  • Drives process improvements throughout the department and the organization to maximize efficiency.
  • Develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the day-to-day accounting function.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Directly supervises employees in the Accounting department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in accounting is required.
  • Generally, candidates should have a minimum of 8 years progressive experience in accounting, including 1+ years of directing and evaluating the work of others.
  • CPA or CPA Candidate is preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a high level of written communications proficiency.
  • Strong GAAP technical background, analytical skills and internal control compliance knowledge required. Experience operating in compliant internal control environments (Sarbanes Oxley 404).
  • Experience with the pharmaceutical, diagnostic or biotech industry is a plus, but not required.
  • Experience with Great Plains and Quickbooks, ADP Workforce Now, and expense reporting software (Concur) is required.
  • Must be proficient in Excel.

  • Ability to analyze, and interpret technical procedures and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to interpret information, assess risk and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


CPA or CPA Candidate is preferred.
