We Are Genetic Navigators bringing together passionate, creative and dedicated professionals to join a rapidly-growing startup on our mission to translate novel genetic insights into lifesaving medicines. We are integrating human genetics and functional genomics to decode the mysteries of genetic modifiers, leading us to new medicines we'll develop for a range of severe diseases.

We are seeking a talented and highly motivated individual with a strong background in synthetic organic chemistry to join our dynamic and highly-collaborative medicinal chemistry team in the pursuit of novel small molecules to treat a diverse range of diseases. The successful candidate will design and synthesize novel chemical entities optimized for potency, selectivity, pharmacokinetics and in vivo efficacy and evaluate HTS data to identify promising hit compounds for follow up. As chemistry lead on cross functional project teams, the senior scientist will collaborate effectively with team members across disciplines, present project results and strategy in key company meetings, and oversee the work of internal and external chemists. The senior scientist will play a pivotal role in drug discovery and advancing programs to lead optimization and to the clinic.

Your Role in Navigating The Maze:
  • Plan and execute the synthesis, purification, and characterization of complex small molecules.
  • Based on pipeline needs, contribute to chemistry program strategy or serve as chemistry project lead for drug discovery programs, communicating opportunities and challenges as well as shepherding and leading chemistry teams for discovery projects.
  • Design novel chemical entities in alignment with project goals.
  • Integrate and utilize modern medicinal chemistry principles and tools; identify and develop cutting-edge synthetic approaches to build internal capabilities.
  • Advance drug discovery programs by interacting with other chemists, biologists and external collaborators to understand and optimize DMPK and in vitro and in vivo pharmacological properties.
  • Contribute effectively to patent, report and scientific publication writing.
  • You will employ sound judgment in the evaluation and strategic decision making around HTS screening data or literature hits.
  • You will effectively manage and mentor junior medicinal chemistry research colleagues and external chemists.
  • You will have the capability to lead a chemistry team on a drug discovery program

Your Navigation Tools:
  • Ph.D in synthetic organic chemistry or equivalent discipline and 4+ years industry experience
  • A proven track record in medicinal chemistry as demonstrated through strong publication record and industry achievements.
  • Key contributions to program strategy or experience shepherding a program from initial hit to clinical candidate strongly preferred.
  • Strong desire to leverage chemistry for impact at the interface of genetics, functional genomics, and biology.
  • Experience managing scientists is a plus
  • Excellent scientific expertise in organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry, and conversant with the current literature.
  • Superb written and verbal communication skills and the ability to deliver effective presentations to all levels
  • Adaptable and able to pivot to changing program needs and maintain the speed of a startup environment
