Overall Description:

The Vice President, Finance has responsibility for leadership of the accounting function. The position reports to the Chief Financial Officer and oversees global accounting-related activities, including internal and external financial reporting, internal control framework/Sarbanes Oxley, technical accounting, accounts payable, payroll, taxes and stock administration.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensuring internal and external financial reporting, SEC filings and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance as well as interfacing with the company's outside accounting firm
  • Regularly interacting with the Audit Committee
  • Working closely with staff and senior management to ensure appropriate processes to report key operating and financial data
  • Encourage a culture of continuous improvement throughout the organization and work closely with other team members to identify and implement changes to systems, processes and practices that will improve quality and efficiency
  • Working closely with accounting team, oversee technical accounting issues such as collaboration accounting and clinical trial accruals
  • Oversee tax strategy and compliance for rapidly growing organization
  • Attract and manage top talent; develop and mentor members of the team
  • Advise as to accounting treatment of potential business development activities
  • Continuing the development of the finance function to support our broad partnership with Gilead


The ideal candidate will be a passionate financial executive who will partner well across all business functions and with corporate partners. The candidate will have demonstrated excellent communication skills in interacting with a broad variety of stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience building and leading teams in a biotech organization. The candidate will have a strong work ethic, the flexibility and organizational skills to manage numerous and sometimes competing responsibilities within a fast-paced environment.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience as a senior financial executive with technical experience across finance functions, including accounting, control, and managing business collaborations.
  • Ideally, the candidate will have foundational experience with public accounting firms, preferably Big Four
  • S/he will have strong technical ability and high integrity as well as excellent communication skills
  • The candidate will have demonstrated experience in life sciences companies as well as, ideally, a strong track record in growing public companies
  • S/he will have experience in building and mentoring teams in a rapid growth environment
  • S/he will be an agile learner and an analytical and strategic thinker
