The Principal Scientist position is involved in the development, optimization and technical transfer of Downstream purification processes for recombinant proteins, mAb, and virus based vaccines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Support, design, and apply manufacturing and purification processes for the production of protein candidates.
• Serve as the Technical Lead for multiple projects by developing scopes of work and technical plans.
• As the Technical Lead, oversee scientific projects executed by the Operations team.
• Develop scalable chromatographic techniques for the purification of protein candidates.
• Optimize and scale-up purification processes for transfer to a contract manufacturing organization for GMP manufacture.
• Assist in the technical transfer of purification processes to a relevant CMO.
• Invention of suitable in-process controls in order to follow the purification process.
• Generate technical documents capturing the development of purification processes.
• Technical review of draft batch manufacturing records.
• Perform intellectual property sign-off and scientific review of Emergent generated data.
• Report project progress on a regular basis, both internally and to Customers.
• Actively train other members of the Drug Substance Development team.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS
• PhD in Biochemistry or related field with a minimum of 8 years of experience.
• In-depth knowledge of purification and filtration techniques.
• Experience working at both lab and manufacturing scale.
• Knowledge of fermentation (eukaryotic and prokaryotic systems) and analytical techniques.
• Ability to solve complex and varied problems independently.
• Experience with statistical design of experiment and analytical data analysis.
