Scientist, Viral Vector Process Development

The Scientist will be a member of the viral vector process development (VVPD) group supporting clinical and commercial cellular products. This Scientist will start with approximately 6 months of training with the current viral vector process development group in Seattle, WA before permanently residing in New Jersey. The training in Seattle will ensure the Scientist will have hands-on training with the various processes for lentiviral vector and adeno-associated viral vector production. Upon relocating to New Jersey, the Scientist will be part of the team that will establish the joint viral vector lab which will be shared between viral vector process development and vector manufacturing sciences and technology (MSAT). This Senior Scientist will be a critical team member to the small group accountable for assisting in technology transfer of vector processes into vector manufacturing, implementation of new technologies into vector manufacturing, performing lab work to support closure of manufacturing deviations, and establishing scale-down models for our vector processes. To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate must be self-drive and enthusiastic and also have established a track record of high-quality scientific contributions, including external presentations and peer-reviewed publications

Responsibilities:
  • Key member of the process development team supporting the implementation of new technologies and processes into vector manufacturing
  • Hands-on experimentation work in the development and optimization of upstream (cell culture, transfection) and downstream (clarification, chromatography, tangential flow filtration) unit operations for viral vector production
  • Assist a team of research associates/associate scientists to develop robust viral vector and provide technical and scientific mentorship to junior staff
  • Support clinical technology transfer into vector manufacturing
  • Collaborate with vector manufacturing and MSAT to ensure successful clinical and commercial GMP manufacturing


Basic Qualifications:
  • B.A./B.S. with ≥10 years of experience or Ph.D. with 0 - 2 years of experience in biotechnology or cell and gene therapy with exposure to various stages of product development
  • Highly developed interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, including the ability to clearly articulate complex options to senior decision makers.
  • Demonstrated independence in experimental design, data analysis, interpretation and presentation.
  • Effective communication including presentations to convey scientific concepts to research scientists, management teams, and external academic and industrial organizations.
