MyoKardia is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company pioneering a precision medicine approach to discover, develop and commercialize targeted therapies for the treatment of serious and rare cardiovascular diseases. MyoKardia's initial focus is on the treatment of heritable cardiomyopathies, a group of rare, genetically driven forms of heart failure that result from biomechanical defects in cardiac muscle contraction. Mavacamten is MyoKardia's first product that is currently in late-stage development. MyoKardia's mission is to change the world for patients with serious cardiovascular disease through bold and innovative science.

As an Area Sales Director, you'll play a pivotal role in changing the lives of patients facing serious cardiovascular disease. You will lead and influence regional sales directors through modeling and coaching to MyoKardia's leadership commitments and core values (below). In addition, you will achieve performance objectives for your assigned area through effective leadership, coaching, mentoring, utilization of resources, providing strategic direction/focus and exemplary collaboration with adjacent disciplines including reimbursement, payer, medical, marketing and others. You will help your regional sales directors create and align their business actions to area plans that reflect distinct market insights and opportunities. Reporting to the Vice President of Sales, this is a key role and a member of the Senior Field Leadership Team. Geographic responsibilities are area-based, East, West and Central.


This position will be responsible for:
  • Launch MyoKardia's first product and build out sales force
  • Lead Pre-launch activities such as: recruit, hire, train regional sales directors and account managers, appropriately profile/segment accounts and direct disease area education efforts
  • Ensure sales forecasts and operational budgets are met or exceeded at an area level by inspiring ownership, accountability, initiative and engagement within the entire team by communicating MyoKardia's vision, business objectives and performance outcomes.
  • Understand key market insights and focus the team on delivering customer/account specific approaches based on their needs and preferences
  • Appropriately analyze markets, anticipate and remove obstacles to goal attainment
  • Establish professional relationships with external experts, academic institutions/systems, develop opinion leaders
  • Plays a key strategic role in cross-functional meetings with Marketing, Medical Affairs, Commercial Operations, Human Resources, Legal and outside vendors to ensure product commercialization and growth (at all stages)
  • Plan and execute area sales meetings
  • As a member of the Senior Field Leadership team, work closely with other functional leaders to ensure area insights are communicated, prioritized and appropriately acted upon.
  • Lead/work on launch teams (special projects) as identified
  • Ensures all area personnel are fully informed of, and in compliance with MyoKardia's commercial compliance policy, all applicable federal and state laws and guidance relating to product promotion and information dissemination.


  • Bachelor's degree

  • 15+ years in commercial pharmaceutical/healthcare (preferably specialty care markets)
  • 5+ years leadership experience in field sales (preferably manager of manager)
  • Launch of Rare/Orphan Disease and/or Cardiovascular and/or complex markets
  • Multiple commercial functional areas of the business (e.g. Managed Care, Brand Team/Marketing and Sales Operations)

  • Ability to attract key sales and sales leadership talent
  • Ability to lead and develop regional sales directors (front line leaders)
  • Ability to identify strategies with greatest business impact, formulate an appropriate business plan and enroll their teams to execute the plan
  • Exhibited ability to manage multiple, concurrent work-streams in diverse functional or therapeutic areas
  • Thorough understanding of customer segments and area market dynamics within Rare Disease/Cardiovascular area or other complex markets
  • Demonstrated ability working and leading a sales team in an institutional market (formulary, stocking, and protocol development) as well as community setting
  • Knowledge of the Integrated Delivery Networks or Health System market
  • Demonstrated presentation and negotiation skills
  • Ability to inspire and motivate others to action
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, agile environment

  • Prefer candidate to live in the assigned area
  • Ability to travel frequently and possess a valid driver's license
