Summary: The Biochemistry, Cell Biology and Molecular Pharmacology group in Cambridge is dedicated to working closely with chemistry colleagues in discovering novel small molecule therapeutics for immunological & neurological diseases and overcoming cancer resistance. Our primary role is to develop and apply robust biochemical and cell biology tools that enable small molecule drug discovery. These critical components of the drug discovery process provide in vitro data that guide early discovery and underpin their performance in preclinical disease settings. The data generated ultimately allows selection of drug candidates and forms an essential element in IND filings with the FDA for clinical development.

Description: We seek a highly motivated and innovative leader to build and lead a laboratory group located in Cambridge, MA. The candidate will lead a research team that partners with and is integral to Oncology Biology, Translational Medicine, and Molecular Discovery Technology at Cambridge with a mission to discover and develop innovative Oncology therapeutics. This group will develop assays that enable drug discovery teams to identify and triage hits and optimize lead chemical matter. This leader will also represent the core capabilities in our New Jersey facility. In that capacity they will bring high throughput assays from NJ to bear on local projects or transfer assays from Cambridge to NJ, as appropriate, and will manage these needs across the oncology portfolio.

The successful candidate will have:
  • Deep knowledge of cell signaling in cancer biology
  • Strong track record of developing and validating biochemical and cellular assays
  • Hands on knowledge of automated platforms used for hit identification and lead optimization
  • Proficiency in designing 384 & 1536 well assays and be adept with robotics and lab automation
  • Broad knowledge in compound screening strategy (essential)
  • Hands-on experience w multiple cell-based and biochemical assay technologies such as flow cytometry, HTRF, qPCR, etc
  • Experience with identifying and innovating new technologies that bolster discovery
  • Highly collaborative spirit for working across R&D and an insatiable curiosity
  • Analytical skills to generate and interpret complex data and mechanistic data packages
  • Aptitude to generate new hypotheses and design experiments that test them
  • Ability to manage projects across functional lines and geographic locations
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills for presenting data and ideas to multiple stakeholders across disciplines
  • Strong scientific leadership both at the bench and in data analysis
  • Management skills to direct a team of junior scientists in effective and efficient operation

  • PHD in cell biology, biochemistry or equivalent
  • 8 or more years of recent experience in oncology drug discovery
  • Demonstrated expertise in biochemical & cellular assay design & implementation
  • Deep experience with utilizing automated platforms
