The Finance Manager for Biologics Third Party Manufacturing (TPM) will provide financial leadership, business expertise, guidance and support to External Manufacturing Operations Management. More specifically, the Finance Manager will partner closely with the broader VLOG AbbVie Pharma Finance and External Manufacturing teams to ensure that the Humira and Skyrizi standards and Financials processes are in place, all internal controls are applied appropriately, and insightful financial analysis is provided to achieve strategic and day-to-day business objectives.

The Manager role will be exposed to complex International accounting and financial processes interfacing with Global functional areas including the VLOG entity, Manufacturing, Transfer Pricing, and Trade Compliance with Global communication and coordination.


Financial Reporting & Analysis - Actuals Process and Reporting:

  • Prepare and submit monthly Humira TPM Project accruals, reclasses and various cost allocation journal entries.
  • Coordinate with VLOG finance team to ensure alignment on Month End Actual finance results.
  • Deliver commentary of variances to LBE, Plan during Month-End Flash meetings.
  • Leverage existing reports and develop Immunology specific reports to communicate monthly financial results to Brand teams.
  • Closely support External Manufacturing team's various TPM spend and ad hoc related inquires. Provide analytics, insights and commentary as needed.
  • Support transition to ASPIRE. Streamline current processes capitalizing on new system capabilities.
  • Support Corporate Tax requests as needed.
  • Provide full cost accounting for the third-party manufacturing sites in AbbVie Pharma segregating performance by Business (Vetter, Campo Verde, LuHa and Risankizumab in Campo Verde). Deliver commentary of variances to LBE, Plan during Month-End Flash meetings.
  • Responsible for monitoring the Deferred Margin transactions and serves as liaison with Operations and Corporate.
  • Monitor the AbbVie Pharma Balance Sheet balances on a monthly basis.
  • Assist the Controller or Finance Director in the development of other ad hoc analysis.

Financial Planning & Analysis - Plan/Update/LRP/LBE Cycles

  • Coordinate, consolidate and manage the development and reporting of Actuals, Plan, Update, Latest Best Estimate (LBE) and Long Range Plan (LRP) including capital, project expense, and headcount.
  • Coordinate LBE assumptions with Brand, VLOG finance team and MES to ensure transparency of assumptions and clear relation to the financial implications for each estimate cycle.
  • Responsible for planning and monitoring projects that support product manufacturing and continuity of supply and pipeline assets.
  • Develop cost comparisons
  • Responsible for development and coordination of standards for Biologics External manufacturing Products.
  • Develop AbbVie Pharma, BI an Patheon financial plans/operating forecasts, including annual Plans and Updates, long range plans (LRP's), LBE's, etc. in alignment with S&OP and with clear assumptions for each cycle. Provide guidance to VLOG on the proper segregation of Performance by Business (Vetter, Campo Verde, LUHA and Risankizumab in Campo Verde).
  • New products and annual Standard Costs Development and reporting to Transfer Pricing Group.

Finance Business Partnership:

  • Influence multiple key strategic initiatives and lead special projects providing financial leadership and support.
  • Develop strong partnership with Purchasing (PSM) to influence Terms and Conditions within our TPM Contracts.
  • Work with External Manufacturing Program Managers and PSM to pursue SMI and ensure calculations and methodologies are aligned.
  • Provide analysis to support in In-Sourcing / Out-Sourcing opportunities with AbbVie/TPM network.
  • Effectively balance financial needs of Growth products with needs of Pipeline/Launch products
  • Drive cohesion between Cross Functional areas.
  • Work closely with Biologics TPM Director to evaluate risk mitigation strategies when concerns or opportunities arise.
  • Directly interface with External Manufacturing Operations Finance, Vetter Program Manager, VLOG Supply Chain, VLOG Finance, Biologics Supply Chain, Biologics Region Finance, ABL and Chicago personnel to meet Financial reporting requirements in a timely manner. Provide accurate and insightful business information that support management in the decision making, to properly explain and anticipate variances.

Internal Controls & Compliance:

  • Owner of Biologics Projects Financial process with Program Managers to analyze and track progress/risk of projects.
  • Ensure financial results are recorded in compliance with AbbVie financial policies (CFM's), Sarbanes Oxley and US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Enforce and enhance internal controls by providing guidance and counsel to Brand teams in areas of Corporate Finance Manual (CFM) policies, divisional internal control procedures and International policies.


  • Bachelor's Degree B.S. or B.A. in Business (Business/Accounting/Finance). CPA/MBA desired.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience. Experience in plant/cost accounting is a plus.
  • Builds strong relationships with peers and cross functionally with partners outside of team to enable higher performance.
  • Ability to communicate as well as influence through relaying complex data in simple terms and driving actionable intelligence.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in systems, particularly MS Excel/PowerPoint. TM1, SAP, ASPIRE experience a plus.
  • Innovative with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Excellent problem solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Individual must be self-motivated and demonstrate a high level of accountability. Able to work independently and adjust priorities as needed.
  • Able to travel 15% of the time.
