At Bristol Myers Squibb, we are inspired by a single vision - transforming patients' lives through science. In oncology, hematology, immunology and cardiovascular disease - and one of the most diverse and promising pipelines in the industry - each of our passionate colleagues contribute to innovations that drive meaningful change. We bring a human touch to every treatment we pioneer. Join us and make a difference.

As a Principal Scientist, Biocatalysis Lead, in the Chemical Process Development Technologies Group, you will be responsible for technology development, process knowledge generation, and contributing to the design and implementation of safe, efficient, and robust chemical processes for the synthesis of drug candidates. Candidates will have experience in applying and developing novel applications of biocatalysts as well as leading and driving strategy for this innovative technology. Critical to these activities will be the requirement to manage external and internal development resources, gathering fundamental process knowledge about enzyme catalyzed reactions, addressing scale up challenges, and transitioning such processes to manufacturing.

The qualified candidates will have a Ph.D. in organic chemistry with 7 to 10 years of additional related research/process experience.

Candidates must possess a strong background in the theory and practice of synthetic organic chemistry, possess excellent problem solving skills, and demonstrate a thorough understanding of synthetic methods and reaction mechanisms. In addition, a strong knowledge of the application of biocatalytic transforms for chemical process development, the principles that govern them, as well as knowledge about the external landscape and emerging biocatalytic technologies is desired. Good oral and written communication skills and an ability to work in a collaborative team environment with a diverse group of stakeholders across disciplines, both internal and external, is required. Also, a record of achievements in biocatalytic process development and a demonstrated ability to perform assigned tasks through rigorous data collection and applying analytical tests and instrumentation in the laboratory. Must have expertise in the purification and characterization of organic compounds (i.e. HPLC, NMR, MS, and IR).

Around the world, we are passionate about making an impact on the lives of patients with serious diseases. Empowered to apply our individual talents and diverse perspectives in an inclusive culture, our shared values of passion, innovation, urgency, accountability, inclusion and integrity bring out the highest potential of each of our colleagues.

Bristol Myers Squibb recognizes the importance of balance and flexibility in our work environment. We offer a wide variety of competitive benefits, services and programs that provide our employees with the resources to pursue their goals, both at work and in their personal lives.
