BMS seeks a highly motivated biochemist with a strong background in enzymology and biochemical assay development. This position will enable lead discovery and optimization of small molecule effectors at our BMS Cambridge facilities. You will work across therapeutic functions with a primary focus in oncology biology to discover and develop innovative oncology therapeutics. The individual in this role will be responsible for designing the strategy for and executing biochemical & biophysical methods that guide medicinal chemistry. The scientist will be expected to extend our existing technical expertise to enhance and accelerate research. Experience with enzyme kinetics, screening assays for enzyme activity, and biophysical methods to characterize small molecule macromolecular interactions is essential. We are keen to identify someone who is a self-starter and proactive and who can work independently and effectively.

  • Design & miniaturization of in vitro biochemical assays
  • Hands-on execution and troubleshooting of biochemical & biophysical assays
  • Establish collaborations with colleagues elsewhere in the organization to devise optimal assay strategies
  • Advise and guide projects on optimal use of biochemical tools to advance projects
  • Identify new technologies for biochemistry assays and reduce them to practice
  • Coordination of assays locally and/or with the core facilities in NJ and generally be a point liason

Key Experiences and qualities
  • Enzymology expertise required, including kinetics analysis & a broad range of mechanistic studies
  • Hands on experience with multiple biophysical techniques applied to quantifying small molecule-macromolecular interactions (e.g., SPR, ITC, DSF, MST, etc.)
  • Protein expression and purification is a strong plus
  • Experience with automation is desirable
  • Analyze, interpret, and effectively present scientific data at team meetings
  • Ability to work effectively in highly matrixed teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated, proactive, curious, hard-working
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative work style

  • BS/MS with 5+ years of small molecule drug discovery experience in an industry setting
  • Strong background in cell signaling pathways
  • Command of biochemical & biophysical techniques
  • Demonstrated knowledge of enzyme kinetics, label-free technology, lab automation, protein-protein interactions on cell-free and cell-based systems
