The successful candidate will lead a group (5-10 scientists) that effectively integrates science, engineering and technology to develop enhanced mechanistic understanding and engineering solutions to enable small molecule and biologics drug product development.

Strategy:
  • Develop and implement an integrated engineering technologies strategy across sterile drug product (biologics & small molecule parenteral) process development to help deliver the current and future portfolio
  • Develop and oversee the overall Process Analytical Technology (PAT) strategy across the entire drug product (small molecule and biologics) portfolio - Further drug product development capabilities and establish/refine workflows to effectively deliver the current portfolio, address key gaps and evolve/ develop new capabilities necessary to meet the challenges of the future portfolio.
  • Develop process analytical and engineering technology strategies to advance continuous manufacturing for oral solids


Leadership:
  • Grow and develop talent within the organization. Provide scientific and strategic leadership oversight to maximize organizational impact and seek out challenging developmental experiences for scientists to learn and grow.
  • As a key member of the engineering technologies leadership team, help shape, develop and execute the overall strategy for the group, interface with key stakeholders and ensure the group is successfully delivering on its overall mission. Represent, as appropriate, the group at governance meetings and on enterprise teams


Key interfaces and responsibilities:
  • Drug Product Development functions (Sterile Product Development, Oral Product Development), Product Development functions (Biologics Development, Portfolio Strategy & Integration), Manufacturing Science &Technology and Product Development -Information Technology. Partner closely with stakeholders and proactively seek and identify portfolio and systemic need/opportunities, align on priorities and jointly develop and operationalize integrated strategies to address
  • Strategic alignment and partnership with other functions within Drug Product as well as with other organizations to develop and execute strategy


Requirements:
  • Ph.D. or M.S. with emphasis in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Pharmaceutical Sciences or related fields.
  • 12+ Years (17+ for M.S.) of relevant experience in product development and/or materials development
  • Leadership capabilities to influence and integrate with partner functions
  • Strong knowledge of Drug Product development/manufacturing. Experience in parenteral/biologics drug product development desired.
  • Solid understanding of pharmaceutical development and its integration and partnership with key functional areas such as Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, Clinical, and others
  • Strong negotiation and project management skills
  • Well-rounded and developed written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in presentations, face to face meetings and written form to all levels within an organization
  • Demonstrated ability for critical thinking and innovation
  • Ability to manage ambiguity, and make sound scientific and business decisions with limited information (when necessary)
  • Highly motivated, results focused and acting with a high sense of urgency
  • Proven leadership ability to collaborate, align, motivate, and take ownership
