What You Will Achieve

The successful Senior Associate Scientist applicant will have significant experience in laboratory research and a desire to continue in a laboratory focused role. This position will join a larger team of scientists across multiple sites focused on advancing Pfizer's gene therapy platform. The Senior Associate Scientist will be a key member of the Rare Disease Research Unit Gene Therapy Capsid Development team that will support the execution of novel AAV viral vector development projects, including recombinant virus vector design, cloning, and production. The candidate will perform a variety of molecular and cellular biology techniques including but not limited to cell-based assays, genomic DNA and RNA analysis, DNA library generation for next-generation sequencing, vector construction/production and associated quality control assays. As the scientist will work closely with fellow colleagues, it is necessary for the candidate to be able to work cooperatively with a team and communicate effectively in accordance with Pfizer Values. Given the rapidly shifting priorities and timelines within the team, it is also necessary for the candidate to be change agile. The Senior Associate Scientist may also be asked to participate in Discovery Biology experiments for disease indications.

The scientist's strong foundation in general scientific practice, its principles and concepts will help in meeting critical deadlines. The scientist will be relied on as a technical contributor to assess the assigned tasks and make decisions that involve direct application of your knowledge.

  • Maintain knowledge base of current AAV literature and can apply them to ongoing projects and ideas


  • Bachelor's Degree with 4+ years of experience or Master's Degree with 2+ years of experience, with a degree in a biological discipline (Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or equivalent)
  • Excellent and demonstrated capabilities in molecular techniques, including plasmid construction, advanced cloning, preparation of gDNA/RNA/protein, qPCR/ddPCR, DNA/RNA library synthesis and development for NGS, western blot, immunofluorescence
  • Experience with aseptic technique, strong quantitative bench skills, experience in mammalian cell culture and transfection techniques
  • Experience with in-silico plasmid design and experience with VectorNTI or related program
  • Applicants should be self-motivated, organized, capable of working independently and in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task concurrent project demands, while maintaining exceptional attention to detail as well as organization.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office, imaging software, and basic statistical analysis

  • Minimum experience with AAV mammalian virusculture, production, purification, and viral vector characterization/QC
  • Experience with bioinformatic processes to evaluate next-generation sequencing data, sequencing analysis software, and large scale data processing
  • Experience with in vivo AAV studies and handling of NHP or murine tissue samples for AAV analysis
  • Advanced understanding of AAV molecular and cellular biology
