AbbVie Immunology, located in Worcester, MA offers a unique working environment of design-synthesis for drug discovery. The position of Synthetic Chemist leverages new and established techniques in organic chemistry to prepare candidate drug compounds.

Job Description:

We are seeking a Senior Scientist to join our synthetic team to conceive and execute organic synthetic chemistry research and development that achieves project and area goals. Candidates for this position will generate new scientific synthetic chemistry proposals and execute upon those ideas. They will investigate, identify, develop, and optimize new methods/ techniques to prepare compounds according to a medicinal chemistry strategy and plan conceived by the chemistry team.

Required Skills:

  • Demonstrated expertise within synthetic organic chemistry to enable preparation of compounds
  • Experience with purification and characterization of compounds by chromatography (normal and reverse phase) and characterization of compounds by LC/MS and NMR
  • Good oral/written communication, planning and teamwork skills are expected
  • Maintenance of accurate and current records of research


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

Position will be hired based on level of experience.
  • PhD, MS or BS in Organic Chemistry or related discipline with typically 0+ (PhD), 8+ (MS) or 10+ (BS) years of relevant post-degree experience
  • Candidate must be highly collaborative and thrive in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment
  • Flexible, team player, strong interpersonal and oral/written communication skills
  • Excellent record keeping and organizational skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, organized, detail-oriented, proven multi-tasking ability
