OVERVIEW

Neurona Therapeutics is a biotechnology company based in South San Francisco created to develop cell-based therapies for neurological diseases.

POSITION SUMMARY

Neurona is seeking a dynamic and innovative neurobiologist to join the company as its Head of Discovery Research. The Head of Discovery Research will partner closely with the CEO and the management team to build a pipeline of neural cell-based therapeutic candidates for multiple neurological disorders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead a talented team of ~15 Scientists and Research Associates
  • Serve as a key member of the management team
  • Work closely with the management team to identify and prioritize indications and cell types to target for cell replacement
  • Utilize the company's robust regenerative technology platforms to develop novel product candidates
  • Develop proprietary and scalable methods to derive cell types of interest using clinically compatible raw materials and process parameters
  • Demonstrate that cell derivation methods are sufficiently robust and reproducible
  • Characterize product candidates using molecular and functional assays
  • Understand product composition at the single cell level, including the use of global transcriptomic profiling
  • Identify new intellectual property and assist with patent filing and prosecution efforts
  • Contribute to high-impact publication strategy and increased company visibility at relevant conferences
  • Support due diligence for in/out licensing opportunities and financing efforts, as well as grant applications
  • Work closely with CMC and Preclinical department heads to support process development, manufacturing, analytics, and preclinical studies to evaluate the safety and efficacy of product candidates
  • Present relevant quarterly progress to the Board of Directors

Requirements:
  • A Ph.D. degree with post doctoral expertise in developmental neurobiology and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience
  • Strong understanding of drug discovery and development, preferably in neuroscience and cell/gene therapy
  • Deep expertise in human pluripotent stem cell and gene editing technologies
  • Proven leadership and influencing skills, effective in leading multiple projects and teams in parallel
  • Excellent communication skills – ability to clearly and effectively communicate to a broad range of audiences
  • High energy, passion for drug discovery and development and an entrepreneurial spirit – ability to lead in fast-paced environment
  • Ability to build partnerships across the organization and wholeheartedly embrace Neurona's collaborative culture
