Position Summary

The Senior Manager in Vaccine R&D Virology leads a team of laboratory scientists in a variety of research and development activities. Develops and evaluates new technologies and provides scientific support for pipeline R&D programs. Supports other Vaccine Business Unit projects as needed. Works closely with and reports to the Director, Research to ensure timely delivery of project specific demands and requirements. Represent the company externally through publications, conferences, collaborations and other interactions with the greater scientific community. Ensures laboratory safety.

• Contribute to the design and development of new pipeline vaccines.
• Evaluate new technologies or vaccines being considered for acquisition.
• Contribute to writing grant proposals to external funding sources & generate supportive data.
• Represent the company externally at scientific conferences and community science outreach events.
• Establish and manage relationships with external collaborators.
• Contribute to the preparation of scientific manuscripts for publication.
• Participate in biosafety committee meetings, perform weekly safety checks and monthly safety audits of the laboratory.
• Serve as the principal investigator to the Institutional Biosafety Committee.
• Train and mentor scientific staff.
• Conduct laboratory research related to the development of new technologies.
• Support clinical testing programs for the evaluation of vaccine candidates.
• Perform a wide variety of tasks in the laboratory, if necessary.
• Present and discusses results of experiments within the department & project teams.
• Prepare technical reports, summaries and protocols.
• Work well in a team environment, suggesting creative solutions and providing input to project planning.
• Make suggestions to improve work processes and laboratory environment

Minimum Education, Experience and Skills

• PhD in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Virology or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of industry or postdoctoral experience.
• Ability to work with a high level of independence to design, troubleshoot, and execute laboratory experiments .
• Able to effectively lead a team of researchers.
• In-depth understanding of cellular biology, molecular biology and virology.
• Broad knowledge of both novel and established laboratory procedures/techniques.
• Basic understanding of Universal Precautions and Basic Lab safety.
• Highly self-motivated, with excellent organizational skills and critical-thinking skills.
• Capable of searching scientific literature to gain information about specific topics.
• Skilled with use of word processing, spreadsheets, graphical & presentation software.
