This role will be responsible for developing and executing the technical strategy for the Real World Data (RWD) initiatives at AbbVie. This person will be a part of our RWD team and work with the Enterprise Data Organization, the ARCH team, HEOR, DSS and our Epidemiology teams to architect solutions leveraging RWD platforms to drive insights about our products and therapeutic areas to improve our patients lives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with cross functional teams (HEOR, GMA DSS, EPI) and Asset Management Teams to understand asset-level RWD strategies and data needs.
  • Based upon the collaboration of stakeholders, deliver an AbbVie wide RWD strategy and roadmap with execution plans which includes tools, study and data access portals.
  • Partner with the Convergence team on technical architecture and toolsets.
  • Strategize on internal and external real world data sources, technologies and/or analytical approaches/ capabilities, across geographies.
  • Work with different teams to set the environments and security to onboard new datasets
  • Help streamline the entire process for data and environment setup
  • Work with the platform owners and the vendors for environment configurations and setup
  • Advise on technical agreements in contracts around data transfer process, storage and maintenance of data agreements
  • Partner with all major internal technical teams to ensure we have a voice where needed in their environments (EDO, CDP, CDL, ARCH, Redshift, etc.....)
  • Continuously monitor technologies for potential investment or partnership opportunities.
  • Evaluate RW datasets and participate in data quality evaluations and "fit for purpose" discussions.
  • Liaise with other RWD centers, OHDSI, EDHEN and other data hubs.
  • Ensure that all RWD information is catalogued.


  • 14 or more years of software development experience.
  • Experience building and deploying Cloud computing technologies such as Cloudera, AWS, Spark and Impala
  • Experience building and deploying large database applications, preferably other RWD solutions.
  • Experience working with electronic health records, medical claims or registry datasets.
  • Understanding of data privacy regulations and de identification methodologies.
  • Experience with SQL development
  • Excellent matrix, interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Works tenaciously through difficulties to achieve best results.
  • Understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies, including code of conduct, safety, GxP compliance, data security, and the software development lifecycle.
