Osteoporosis affects nearly 13 million men and women in the U.S., but as of 2018, only ~25% of affected individuals are treated despite a growing elderly population. Although osteoporosis has many generic options available, Amgen has emerged as the leader in this therapeutic area with our flagship brand, Prolia® which launched in 2010, and our newest innovation, EVENITY®. Recently celebrating 10 years in market, Prolia® continues to deliver strong growth of ~13% year on year and in 2019 treated nearly 1.5 million patients in the US and 3.5 million worldwide! A key driver of new patient growth is our Direct-to-Consumer activities that educate consumers and build patient awareness for the risk of fracture and the role that Prolia® and EVENITY® may play for them.

Amgen is seeking a Director of Marketing for the US Bone Health Consumer/Patient team. The successful candidate will lead, plan, and execute the consumer marketing strategy and all patient touchpoints essential to supporting our osteoporosis patients in the US market. This position will be responsible for all consumer and patient activities for the US Bone Health Franchise for both Prolia® and EVENITY®. The Consumer Marketing Director will report to the Bone Health Commercial lead and will manage and guide a team of four marketers. You will have full ownership and accountability for leading and handling all consumer-focused agency and media partners as well as oversee the consumer budget investments to deliver results.

Importantly, this individual will partner across key functions (including Commercial Data & Analytics, Multi-Channel Marketing, Marketing Operations, Value & Patient Access, Corporate Communications, Advocacy, Sales Planning, Medical Affairs, Legal and Regulatory, and Global Marketing). You will have accountability for our consumer touchpoints along the patient journey through an integrated omnichannel approach. This role will define and execute opportunities against the full marketing mix to disrupt current paradigms for a disease that is largely silent and asymptomatic.

Responsibilities :
  • Develop the strategic plan and drive the implementation of the consumer strategy for bone health for Prolia® and EVENITY®.
  • Develop and implement an innovative omnichannel consumer plan in a manner that integrates the totality of the patient journey to ensure the best possible patient experience
  • Deliver breakthrough and impactful creative campaigns that execute via television, digital, website, mobile, email/CRM, point of care, and print
  • Create and implement a robust digital, social and mobile plan to engage and activate consumers
  • Oversee patient support programs that are integrated with an array of services to provide the patient what they need when he/she needs it
  • Systematically develop and track metrics for media mix, consumer engagement, advertising effectiveness, brand performance related to consumer activities while linking to the broader success metrics of the brand
  • Partner with consumer agencies to hold them accountable to the highest standards of performance
  • Lead cross-functional teams to gain alignment with internal and external partners both strategically and tactically
  • Provide strategic focus and direction for market research plans to generate meaningful insights that impact the business
  • Be the designated lead for Consumer-related assets in the legal/medical/regulatory review process
  • Oversee consumer marketing budget, including media investments
  • Coach, develop, and lead teams to reach their potential and maximize performance


Basic Qualifications:
  • Doctorate degree and 4 years of marketing experience

or
  • Master's degree and 6 years of marketing experience

or
  • Bachelor's degree and 8 years of marketing experience


Preferred Qualifications:
  • MBA
  • 10+ years of experience in brand leadership/commercialization, in pharma, medical devices or consumer packaged goods, including 5+ years in the marketing function.
  • Substantial technical marketing competencies, including marketplace/consumer analysis and insight generation, consumer segmentation, brand positioning, brand sustainability (campaign/message platform development), performance excellence (multi-channel development and metric development/tracking)
  • Experienced in developing multi-channel media plans, including innovative digital, social, mobile, public relations, and advocacy initiatives
  • Ability to lead agencies of record on strategy, creative development, and performance
  • Strong business analytical skills and financial acumen
  • A track record of experience translating sophisticated data/information into simple, meaningful insights
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and empower a team aligned to a common vision
  • Ability to coach/mentor team members to generate both strong performance and achievement of individual career aspirations
  • Able to foster trusted relationships with key partners within brands and other cross-functional partners
  • Strong communication effectiveness: effectively engage, connect, and influence senior management and the sales and marketing organizations
  • Ability to translate and communicate complex information/strategies into simple and impactful plans
  • Accomplished handling change in a matrix organization
