Are you looking for a challenging new opportunity to test and growth your engineering skills? We have multiple Senior Process Engineer positions to join the AML6-Drug Substance team. This is an exceptional opportunity to take on a variety of challenges and responsibilities around our state-of-the-art Mammalian Cell Culture facility at Amgen Manufacturing Limited in Juncos, Puerto Rico.


The Senior Engineer provides and/or directs the characterization of process optimization strategies and/or troubleshooting of operational and equipment issues in the manufacturing plant, pilot plant or capital projects environment. Applies advanced and diverse engineering principles to the design and implementation of major system modifications, experiments, process and/or capital projects. Develops, organizes, analyzes and presents interpretation of results for operational issues or engineering projects of significant scope and complexity. This role is crucial for Amgen's success and it will be a key contributor in the AML6 Drug Substance organization.


The AML-6 Facility is the home of best-in-class, multi-product Drug Substance & Non-Standard shift Manufacturing Operations. The facility highlights the combination of groundbreaking manufacturing sciences and process technology, advanced equipment engineering and automation, and a high-performance culture integrating cross-functional teams from across the site with the goal of achieving being the best mammalian Drug Substance manufacturing facility in the world.


  • Complete complex or novel assignments requiring development of new and/or improved engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Develop engineering policies and procedures that affect multiple organizational units.
  • Supervise, coordinate and review work of a small staff of engineers, associates and/or technicians on an ongoing basis as well as on a project basis.
  • Employ advanced engineering techniques and/or modifications of advanced techniques within area of engineering expertise.
  • Apply knowledge of engineering principles and practices outside of area of discipline expertise to broad variety of assignments in related fields.
  • Serves as a peer-recognized engineering technology specialist in at least one area, with overall responsibility for determining methodologies in that area.
  • Application of mature engineering knowledge in planning and conducting projects.
  • Prompt and regular attendance to workplace.
  • Work with research, manufacturing, process development, maintenance, automation, utilities, facilities, quality assurance and validation departments in developing recommendations for large and/or highly complex system/facility modifications.
  • Develop departmental budgets or project budgets encompassing multiple disciplines for area within project or entirety of smaller project.
  • Develop technical solutions to complex problems using the regular use of ingenuity and creativity.
  • Delegate and manage the project work of others.
  • Support non-standard shifts operation including 7/24, extended hours and weekends


Doctorate degree in Engineering


Master's degree in Engineering & 3 years of Engineering experience in a GMP regulated industry

Bachelor's degree in Engineering & 5 years of Engineering experience in a GMP regulated industry


  • Working knowledge of chemical/pharmaceutical/biotech manufacturing processes or maintenance.
  • Working knowledge on clean utilities equipment, including troubleshooting and equipment reliability.
  • Familiarity with validation and documentation processes in a highly regulated environment.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills in Spanish and English.
  • Process improvement knowledge and Operational Excellence mindset.
  • Comprehensive understanding of validation protocol execution requirements.
