The Associate Director of Cell Therapy (CT), Strategy & Business Operations plays an important role in operating strategically and with a high degree of independence to develop and drive resource planning, tracking, governance, communications and other business operations within the Pipeline & Product Lifecycle Strategy (PPLS) group. In partnership with the senior PPLS leadership team and other strategy & business operations partners within CTDO, this role will lead development and implementation of connected work processes to drive efficiency and successful timely outcomes throughout the PPLS organization. This role will have visibility across CTDO and interface with other counterparts in CTDO and PPLS, will have exposure to strategic and sensitive information and requires the role to operate with high level of discretion and judgment in managing information

Core responsibilities include developing / maintaining operating model and strategic plan, tracking goals and KPIs, supporting budget cycle activities, assisting with recruiting, onboarding, and performance management, collaborating with other strategy & business operations counterparts within CTDO, and ensuring continuous improvement within the PPLS organization.

Key responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Support tracking of functional budgets to ensure visibility of plan vs. actual spend. Create mechanism to capture/track and drive cost-saving, cost-avoidance initiatives to drive a better understanding of the value of various projects and in turn use this understanding to refine prioritization.
  • Develop, maintain and execute a long-range plan for PPLS, including 3-year operating plan, tracking goals and KPIs, adherence to functional budget, support of capital projects, external consulting and contract service administration
  • Serve as Chief of Staff for PPLS head; will maintain a dotted line reporting relationship with Head CTDO S&BO office
  • Develop on-boarding materials and ensure mechanisms to smooth on-boarding for new members
  • Develop and maintain role-based training curriculum for PPLS staff and track adherence to plan
  • Strategically drive PPLS business processes, oversee PPLS Share Point, promote and drive timely communications and sharing of information within and outside PPLS network
  • Facilitate the PPLS leadership team meetings ensuring effective decision making, facilitate town halls, PPLS wide team building and other department level meetings
  • Develop standard resource models to drive long term staffing projections and reconcile actual vs. planned staffing numbers.
  • Support talent management and promotion process as needed.
  • Drive Operational Excellence within PPLS and matrix teams, applying OE methodology and leveraging OE resources within BMS as needed
  • Define and track business performance metrics as well as indicators and predictors of overall workload
  • Act as a single point of contact within PPLS for collaboration with all business ops counterparts in CTDO
  • Operate in a matrix environment and leverage existing resources within the network and functions to execute the tasks in scope.
  • Coordinate consultants and contingent staff within PPLS; may manage 1-3 contractors to support activities as needed
  • Drive execution of trainings for PPLS and matrix teams, with input from PPLS LT


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a life sciences or Engineering discipline and 8-10 plus years of relevant biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry experience, with expertise in business operations / project management
  • Strong leadership track record especially in the areas of leading in a global and matrix environment, working cross functionally and evidence of strong interpersonal skills
  • Highly effective written and verbal communications skills; strong presentation, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to deal with complex and ambiguous environments and maintain a business-wide view across a variety of projects, work-streams and timeframes
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, results-oriented climate; across a portfolio of programs and multiple locations
