Director, Antibody and Protein Therapeutics

Prometheus Biosciences is focused on the discovery and development of therapeutics and companion diagnostics for IBD using a precision medicine approach. With an integrated, multiplatform strategy we are able to identify dominant pathways in the pathogenesis of IBD. To date this work has led to the identification of several new potential targets and drug candidates for the treatment of IBD.

Job Description: We are seeking a highly talented and innovative scientist to lead Prometheus' Therapeutic Antibody Discovery and Optimization effort. This position offers the opportunity to develop and lead the therapeutic antibody discovery strategy for portfolio program(s). As a result of the large impact of this role, we are seeking an accomplished scientist with a proven track record of driving therapeutic antibody programs from early discovery into the clinic. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated scientist with demonstrated leadership, communication and organizational skills who can work collaboratively in a dynamic environment.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute the strategy of antibody discovery and optimization across the portfolio
  • Oversee all aspects of antibody generation efforts, from discovery stage through optimization, including affinity maturation, humanization, and optimization of the biophysical properties.
  • Lead, in a matrixed environment, a team of scientists focusing on the effective execution of all aspects of antibody discovery
  • Build productive collaborations with external scientific services providers
  • Document, analyze, interpret and present experimental data in a clear and concise manner
  • Recognize, troubleshoot and solve technical and scientific issues to ensure high quality data are generated
  • Contribute to building a positive, team-oriented culture

Required Qualifications:

  • Familarity with [or Deep understanding of] current antibody discovery platforms.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with antibody engineering, including affinity maturation, and humanization as evidenced by a strong publication record, patents and pipeline contributions (including IND submission)
  • A strong understanding of protein structure-function relationships
  • PhD in biochemistry/immunology or a related discipline with at least 8 years of R&D experience in a biotech/pharmaceutical environment
  • Familiarity with biotherapeutic format optimization and bi-functional scaffolds
  • Knowledge in antibody structural modeling and sequence prediction to improve antibody function
  • A strong people leader with a track record of developing talent
  • Demonstrated self-motivation and time management to conduct multiple laboratory and project tasks efficiently
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and demonstrate attention to detail and record keeping
  • Flexibility to adapt workplans to rapidly changing priorities and deadlines
