Amgen is seeking a Sr. Associate of Strategic Planning & Operations to join the Drug Substance Technologies (DST) organization. The Sr. Associate will be based out of Amgen's Thousand Oaks, California or Cambridge, Massachusetts facility and will report into the DST Business Planning function.

The Sr. Associate will work with the organization to track and analyze key operational data and manage business analysis projects, including developing real-time visual management tools using Spotfire and Tableau type programs. The Sr. Associate is responsible for staying informed of best practices, technologies, and tools; will provide innovative, impactful ideas to optimize processes to support the organization's growth strategies. The role will also collect and analyze data on budgets, resource forecasting and headcount tracking to enable efficient decision making and planning.

Responsibilities may include:
  • Define, track and monitor key business indicators and report monthly status to senior leadership
  • Budget development, management, tracking and PO/invoice resolution
  • Track monthly headcount input and output of the DST organization and sites
  • Project portfolio and resource allocation/capacity
  • Identify, scope, track and implement continual improvement/ productivity efforts using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies
  • Provide regular reports and presentations that clearly summarize analytical business data results and implications/recommendations to key stakeholders to inform decision making
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to develop and execute mitigation plans, when needed, to reach department goals and critical milestones
  • Turn unstructured business issues/requests into appropriate action plans and projects that result in high quality, meaningful and actionable deliverables
  • Deploy 'best in class' project management on departmental initiatives


Basic Qualifications:

Master's degree

OR

Bachelor's degree and 2 years of project management, data science and/or business experience

OR

Associate's degree and 6 years of project management, data science and/or business experience

OR

High school diploma / GED and 8 years of project management, data science and/or business experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Business or Engineering
  • Demonstrated ability to think and act strategically to support key business decisions
  • Excellent organizational skills and a superior attention to detail
  • Strong analytical skills-ability to translate disparate and sometimes ambiguous data sets into actionable insights and recommendations
  • Experience in project planning, implementation, monitoring, completion and follow-up. Experience with lean and six sigma methodology, tools and projects
  • Strong oral, written and presentation skills with ability to explain complex concepts clearly to a variety of audiences
  • Proficient facilitation, negotiation, problem-solving, change management skills and ability to apply operational excellence methodologies.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint and Microsoft Word; working knowledge of business intelligence and predictive modeling tools, such as Tableau, Power BI and Spotfire. Ability to develop visual data analysis reports and tools to drive decision making
  • Superior ability to work in a self-directed manner while balancing a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and competing demands
  • Project a positive, 'can do' attitude and eagerly contribute to all initiatives as needed and requested
  • Experience and understanding of the biotech/pharmaceutical industry
