Arcus Biosciences is seeking a dynamic Patent Agent who enjoys leveraging IP strategies to support Arcus's mission to create best-in-class cancer therapies. The ideal candidate has a strong scientific background and an ability to engage with scientific and business leadership to create world-class intellectual property protection.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Collaborate with scientific colleagues to identify patentable inventions.
  • Prepare patent applications that are high quality and strategically aligned with business goals.
  • Develop a deep understanding of patent portfolios in support of worldwide patent prosecution and contribute to company's global prosecution strategy.
  • Conduct prior art and freedom-to-operate searching and monitoring, including maintaining knowledge of competitor patenting activities. Independently identify risks and appropriate solutions to drive business goals.
  • Lead implementation, administration and ongoing improvement of IP-related systems and processes, including patent docketing and annuity payments.
  • Educate internal colleagues on intellectual property laws, including new developments in laws and policies.
  • Support intellectual property-related transactional work.
  • Maintain a strong knowledge practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office


Qualifications
  • 4+ years of Patent Agent experience in active small molecule patent prosecution setting (pharmaceutical company or representing such clients in a law firm)
  • An advanced degree in chemistry is preferred.
  • Large molecule and other pharmaceutical drafting experience is a plus.
  • Admission to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
  • Exposure to adverse proceedings (e.g., USPTO adverse proceedings, EPO adverse proceedings, US litigation) or patent diligence is a plus.
  • Exceptional legal research and analytical skills a must.
