Emergent Medical Affairs is seeking a Director, Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR) to develop and execute strategic plans to support the value proposition of Emergent products. This is a strategic as well as a technical position with project-specific and management responsibilities. The Director will collaborate with colleagues in various functional areas including those in Global Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Brand and Payer Marketing, Government Policy, Market Access, Regulatory, and National Managed Markets Account Teams. The candidate must have a successful track record of developing and executing Managed Markets and HEOR plans and materials to support products in development through post-launch, including late-stage life-cycle management activities. This position reports directly to the Sr. Director, Global Medical Affairs

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develop and support the clinical, economic, and patient-centered value propositions related to Emergent products
  • Lead the development of HEOR strategy and supporting tactics and studies for Emergent products
  • Effectively lead external research partners to ensure projects are scientifically rigorous, medically relevant and address business needs as well as the needs of patients, health care providers and payers
  • Support the development of the value dossiers, Congress presentations, publications, and field tools that support formulary decision making and access
  • Collaborate with home office and field-based colleagues in the development and execution of field-based, customer-focused initiatives (e.g., models, tools, scientific communications, slide kits, formulary/regulatory dossiers)
  • Train and support internal colleagues (e.g., medical and payer-focused field teams) on Managed Markets, HEOR methodologies and study results
  • Provide technical oversight and guidance to research support staff; serve as an internal resource for research design, HEOR methodologies, analytic techniques and reporting of health economic and outcomes research
  • Ensure that Emergent's clinical development programs contain outcome measures that are appropriate and meaningful to patients, health care providers and payers, and decision makers
  • Maintain collaborative working relationships with cross functional colleagues within Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Regulatory, Marketing, and Managed Markets) to support and enhance clinical development programs and value proposition
  • Identify and maintain successful research relationships with HEOR key opinion leaders and other clinical/academic stakeholders
  • Represent the Emergent Medical Affairs department for HEOR-related activities at external professional, scientific meetings and forums

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS

Basic Qualifications
  • Advanced degree (PhD, MD, MPH, or PharmD) in a scientific discipline
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in health economics and outcomes research and/or managed markets; at least 1 year within a pharmaceutical or biotech company
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in the healthcare industry including the pharmaceutical industry (R&D, clinical research and commercialization) as well as the managed care, hospital systems, and integrated systems of care
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience developing HEOR strategic plans to support payer value propositions
  • Minimum 2 years' experience with process and project management skills including the ability to manage a significant volume of projects with exercise of good triage and judgment skills

Preferred Skills
  • Competency in medical science, epidemiology, clinical trials, drug development, outcomes research, and pharmacoeconomics including a deep understanding of research methods, health economics, and related disciplines
  • Results oriented and demonstrated ability to collaborate across functions
  • Proven record of outstanding written and verbal communication and negotiation skills, with experience interacting with and presenting to key customers
  • Ability to manage complexity in a matrixed work environment;
  • Demonstrated business acumen
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Highly motivated self-starter who is able to work independently, deal with complex issues, develop creative solutions to complex problems, and relate to multiple internal and external stakeholders
