JOB SUMMARY

The Accounting Associate Specialist will be responsible for a variety of accounting and period-end close functions related to various Emergent companies and sites. Specific areas of focus include fixed asset project accounting, month-end close tasks, and other general accounting duties. As part of Emergent Finance team, the position will foster accountability, innovation and efficiency, with a focus on customer service.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Capital project administration and fixed asset accounting including: processing fixed asset additions, asset retirements, asset transfers in SAP; maintaining fixed asset schedules and recordkeeping; preparing reconciliations of fixed asset subledger balances to the general ledger during period-end close; capital project administration and tracking of assets under construction; and working closely with the Fixed Asset Specialist and Emergent site Project Managers to efficiently administer the overall fixed asset process.
  • General accounting and month-end close processing including preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and account analysis and variance explanation.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation and supporting workpapers are maintained in all aspects of work being performed.
  • Maintain strong adherence to Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls in helping maintain a strong internal control environment. Assist in the periodic review and testing of SOX controls.
  • Respond to various queries and requests from external/internal auditors.
  • Maintain detailed procedures for assigned tasks striving for organization and efficiency.
  • May assist in other areas such as local tax compliance activities.
  • Complete special projects or other non-routine tasks as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
  • Minimum of 0-2 years of accounting experience preferred
  • Familiar and experienced with US GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance
  • Proficient in a variety of computer applications: MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience with an ERP system a plus (e.g. SAP, etc.)
  • Strong communication, collaboration and organization skills
  • Detail-oriented, able to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
