We are seeking a multidisciplinary scientist to join the Discovery Platform and Technologies (DPT) department with a specific focus on advancing proteomic sciences and an emphasis on Targeted Protein Degradation (TPD). The successful candidate will be adept in using chemical biology techniques combined with analytical tools for addressing drug discovery program needs within the Proteasome Sciences team. The successful candidate will also identify novel technologies and develop methods to improve detection methods, enable protein characterization, and enhance assay readouts to support AbbVie's drug discovery pipeline while interacting with a broad range of therapeutic area scientists to deliver key data that accelerates the delivery of novel medicines to patients in need.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conceptualize, plan, and execute experiments to interrogate mechanisms of TPD.
  • Perform structural characterization of purified and intracellular target proteins, protein complexes, covalent modification localization, and assessment of drug candidate selectivity using mass spectrometry, chromatography, and other analytical or biophysical techniques.
  • Prepare samples from cells and tissues for multiple downstream analyses such as mass spectrometry and biochemical assays
  • Propose and evaluate novel methods and technologies for improved differentiation of target inhibition and TPD
  • Engage in external collaborations where opportunities align with team mission
  • Interface and collaborate with colleagues and project teams in therapeutic areas to determine appropriate chemical biology approach to best address the needs
  • Serve as lead author on external publications



Position will be based on level of experience.
  • PhD in Chemical Biology, Chemoproteomics, or related area with typically 0-4+ years of experience
  • Experience with cell culture, tissue homogenization, protein enrichment, and sample handling
  • Able to integrate multiple sources of data, perform biological pathway analyses, and interpret results to produce meaning from experimental outputs
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with a strong publication and/or speaking record with an emphasis on novel scientific approaches
  • Motivated, independent, and productive problem solver with a proven ability to advance new scientific understandings
  • High attention to detail, creativity in problem-solving, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to successfully work independently

  • Expertise in ubiquitin-related signaling and E3 ligase biology
  • Experience applying novel techniques towards Protein Degrader drug discovery and elucidation of mechanism of action
  • 1-3 years industry experience
