MyoKardia is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company pioneering a precision medicine approach to discover, develop and commercialize targeted therapies for the treatment of serious and rare cardiovascular diseases. MyoKardia's most advanced product candidate is mavacamten, a novel, oral, allosteric modulator of cardiac myosin that is a first in class treatment for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Mavacamten is in a pivotal Phase 3 clinical trial in patients with symptomatic, obstructive HCM. MyoKardia is seeking to hire an experienced marketing professional to lead our patient education and promotional efforts and support commercialization of the company's first cardiovascular product. The Director of Patient Marketing will be responsible for leading the development and execution of strategic and tactical patient marketing plans for mavacamten. The ideal candidate will bring experience developing new markets and assessing needs for patient education and promotion, and a track record of building and executing successful campaigns to patients. This individual will partner with team members from Marketing, Market Access, Medical Affairs, Advocacy, Commercial Insights and Analytics, Commercial Operations and Sales.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Evaluate HCM patient market landscape and needs for educating patients and activating patient/physician dialogue related to mavacamten
  • Develop and drive mavacamten patient strategic and tactical launch plan, including unbranded education and branded promotion, in collaboration with Healthcare Provider (HCP) Marketing, Market Access, and Commercial Insights and Analytics
  • Coordinate where appropriate launch efforts with Medical Affairs and Advocacy
  • Collaborate with Commercial Insights and Analytics on market research to define adoption drivers and barriers, patient value proposition and messaging, and patient education strategy
  • Lead the development of patient facing tactics including patient portion of, digital, patient CRM strategy, IFU
  • Develop potential patient-facing positioning and messaging, ensuring alignment with overall brand strategy and HCP initiatives
  • Manage agency partners for educational and promotional campaign materials and tactics
  • Drive development and approval of all materials through the medical, legal and regulatory review process and integrate feedback
  • Collaborate with Advocacy to interact with the HCM patient community, professional societies and other key stakeholders
  • Collaborate with Advocacy to plan, manage and execute patient advisory boards
  • Work with Corporate Communications and Advocacy to develop patient spokespeople and other initiatives
  • Manage timelines, budget, expenses and resources against commercial and corporate goals
  • Institute key processes necessary to achieve short and long-term strategic goals
  • Ensure all programs are compliant with relevant laws, regulatory requirements and company policies governing interactions with patients and healthcare providers


Education, Experience and Capabilities




  • 8-10 years of pharmaceutical/biotech Marketing experience, advertising agency or equivalent combination of education and experience, preferably with experience in cardiovascular disease
  • Patient marketing experience required
  • Track record of success in Patient marketing, including making key business decisions and leading implementation across the commercial organization
  • Experience in developing new markets and launching new products is required
  • Deep understanding of patient journeys, communications channels and tactic design
  • Extensive experience in marketing strategy and tactical planning with ability to convey plans to internal and external agency partners
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage commercial insights and analytics data to drive decision making
  • Works well within a dynamic environment with ability to quickly make an impact
  • Patient services experience is preferred
  • Strong organization and project management skills
  • Strong scientific/medical aptitude is desirable, including ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and concise manner
  • Candidates must have a BA or BS degree with an MBA or post-graduate degree preferred
