BMS is a clinical-stage company developing novel cellular immunotherapies based on two distinct and complementary platforms - Chimeric Antigen Receptors (CARs) and T Cell Receptors (TCRs) technologies. Our goal is to revolutionize medicine by re-engaging the body's immune system to treat cancer.

The Process Sciences and Technology department is seeking a Scientist to develop technologies and cell therapy process unit operations to support development of an allogeneic cell therapy production platform. This is a highly visible technical position that will interact with project teams and cross-functional stakeholders. To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate must have extensive process development expertise in biotechnology or cell and gene therapy areas. The incumbent be accountable for planning and executing laboratory studies, analyzing experimental data, documenting and summarizing results, and presenting their findings to CMC and Program teams.

This position requires technical expertise and demonstrated excellence in cell purification technologies, cell culture engineering and/or gene editing platforms.

Job Description:
  • Plan and execute multifactorial studies to support allogeneic platform development, with an emphasis on developing novel process unit operations.
  • Author reports, regulatory filings and other technical documentation (SOPs, batch records, investigations, etc.).
  • Develop, manage and understand tools and templates to quantify risks and set development priorities.
  • Serve as technical SME to project teams, cross-functional stakeholders, and governance committees.
  • Identify and develop novel technologies to enable allogeneic product candidates.
  • Mentor and train lab-focused team members.
  • Lead and enable cross-functional interaction with multiple functional groups.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Ph.D in an scientific or engineering field with >2 years of CMC experience in biotechnology or B.S in scientific or engineering field with >8 years of CMC experience.Highly beneficial to have experience in cell and gene therapy.
  • Subject matter expertise on cell purification, cell culture and/or gene editing technologies for engineered T cell products.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and execute experiments to support complex manufacturing processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work in cross functional teams, meet deadlines and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Proficiency in using MS Office products and in statistical software (R, JMP, etc), with a working knowledge of process control software (Delta-V, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability for critical and strategic thinking.
  • Highly developed scientific and technical writing skills.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with platforms for characterizing immune cells.
  • Demonstrated experience in cross-functional and functional leadership roles.
  • Direct people management experience is a plus.
  • Track record of successful internal and external scientific collaborations.
