Bristol-Myers Squibb is seeking a Hematopathologist to integrate knowledge of disease mechanisms with drug mechanism of action to inform drug development.The successful candidate will work closely with research scientists who discover and develop drugs for the treatment of cancer, and discover and develop biomarkers for pharmacodynamic assessment and patient selection for clinical trials. The role is embedded within the Translational Medicine organization, and works within Research and Early Development to ensure that strategies for the treatment and cure of disease are based on accurate analysis of pathogenetic mechanisms. The successful candidate will be familiar with, if not expert in, the molecular, cellular, systems biology, and pathogenic mechanisms of disease. She/he will have a strong interest in providing pathology support for drug and biomarker discovery programs in oncology as well as other therapeutic areas such as immunoscience and/or fibrosis as the need arises. The successful candidate should have a good understanding of the principles of other diagnostic modalities and be able to integrate data across diagnostic platforms in partnership with the leaders of those other modalities. Interaction with key opinion leaders and contract research organizations are a routine component of this role. Depending on the candidate and the availability of resources, there may be an opportunity for the individual to spend part of his or her efforts in basic and/or translational research activities that have relevance to the company's business goals.
Qualifications:
- This position requires an MD, or their foreign equivalents, with Board Certification in Anatomic Pathology, or combined Anatomic Pathology/Clinical Pathology, Board Certification in Hematopathology, and 5+ years relevant work experience.
- An MPH or Ph.D. in a related field and/or other pathology subspecialty certification, in addition to the MD degree, will be highly desirable and a clear demonstration of high quality scholarly productivity in a relevant field of biomedical research.
- We seek candidates with excellent traditional diagnostic pathology skills who demonstrate a strong ability to interpret pathology data in the context of a deep understanding of molecular and cellular biology.
- Candidates must have demonstrated their ability to handle several projects at any given time, to work successfully and collaboratively in teams and to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing to a variety of audiences.
