At Bristol Myers Squibb, we are inspired by a single vision - transforming patients' lives through science. In oncology, hematology, immunology and cardiovascular disease - and one of the most diverse and promising pipelines in the industry - each of our passionate colleagues contribute to innovations that drive meaningful change. We bring a human touch to every treatment we pioneer. Join us and make a difference.

The Immuno-Oncology and Cellular Therapy Thematic Research Center Is one of the fundamental research and early development engines delivering therapeutics to patients. Our mission is to drive leadership in the use of immune effector cell-based therapies in hematological and solid cancers. More specifically, we are focused on developing engineered cell-based therapies, as well as biotherapeutics, both aimed at harnessing the power of immune cells to mediate anti-tumor activity. The team integrates discovery research seamlessly with preclinical sciences, translational research and early clinical development in collaboration with colleagues across the Research and Development organization. Our thematic focus allows the group to capitalize on the cutting edge science that underpins the action of many of the company's most innovative therapeutics, without being constrained by drug modality or disease indication.

The candidate will be part of the immuno-oncology and cellular therapy translational research team based in Seattle. Key responsibilities of this role include implementation of assays to deliver translational data to inform exploratory objectives related to pharmacodynamics, mechanism of action, patient stratification, and mechanisms of resistance/relapse. The candidate will work across assets supporting multiple clinical programs and execute translational strategies in collaboration with translational program lead scientists and cross-functional teams. Expertise in developing clinical facing assays, generating data for clinical trials, and strong knowledge in immunology and tumor biology is required. The individual will work with contract research organizations, and internal and external collaborators, to design, execute, and interpret translationally focused experiments. Activities include biomarker identification, assay development/validation and implementation, generation of data to accelerate the immune oncology and cellular therapy clinical and pipeline development.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Reviews translational development plans and recommends appropriate technology, assay, external lab partner, and operational workflow for successful clinical implementation to meet program deliverables
  • Implements translational activities through direct interaction with translational research scientist, integrated scientific operations, biospecimen operations, information predictive sciences, biostatistics, data management, external lab partners and contract research organizations
  • Oversees assay development, validation, and implementation of clinical facing assays to deliver translational data to inform exploratory objectives related to pharmacodynamics, mechanism of action, patient stratification, and mechanisms of resistance/relapse
  • Aid in biomarker data delivery for clinical studies through working with relevant functions; responsible for aiding in creation of SOWs and interfacing with external lab partners for execution of services, in conjunction with Biospecimen Operations, Integrated Scientific Operations, Translational Research, and Procurement.
  • Provides guidance on clinical biomarker data analysis and visualization to Translational Research, Biostatistics, and Informatics and Predictive Sciences
  • Contributes to the optimization of workflows to increase efficiencies in translational data delivery and analysis

Skills/Knowledge Required
  • Proven ability to develop and validate clinical facing assays for exploratory objectives
  • Broad knowledge of multiple functional technologies (genomics, pathology/IHC, flow cytometry, proteomics) with in depth experience in at least one
  • Experience in interacting with external lab partners and cross-functionally to manage projects and meet timelines
  • Experience in activities required for clinical trial initiation, maintenance and completion
  • Expertise in developing biomarkers for clinical trials and interpreting results to inform hypothesis

Education:

Ph.D. with at least 4 years of work experience, preferred. Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline with at least 12 years work experience or Master's degree with at least 10 years work experience.

Candidate must be a rigorous, detail-oriented scientist, with excellent record keeping and organizational skills. Must be a highly flexible, results oriented, independent self-starter who enjoys working in a fast-paced dynamic environment.

Functional/Scientific/Technical Skills:
  • Subject matter expert
  • Broad knowledge of multiple functional technologies (genomics, pathology/IHC, flow cytometry, proteomics) with in depth experience in at least one.
  • Functional area expert with skills and experience to apply scientific direction and approach to projects and problems.

Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Completes technical assignments by designing, executing and interpreting complex experiments.
  • Acts as technology lead on cross functional assignments
  • Manages and/or coordinates workflow on projects
  • Apply diverse scientific knowledge to assignments
  • Interpret results
