Job Description

The Executive Director, Global Program Lead (GPL) reports to the Head of Corporate Development and is accountable for leading an overarching Global Program of specific disease areas. The predominant function of the role is to lead a multidisciplinary team of functional experts focused on the end-to-end development cycle to secure global regulatory approval and market access, maximize commercial value and drive optimal life cycle management of portfolio assets, including external innovation strategy, while ensuring this is achieved with high quality in a compliant manner.

Kite is looking for an experienced business leader with a demonstrated track record of developing and delivering integrated disease area / product strategy maximizing value of inline / pipeline product portfolios and delivering results through effective team leadership, collaboration and influence. The incumbent should have an exceptional ability to deeply understand the science, competitive landscape and commercial / business implications, as well as the sophisticated, cross-functional considerations critical to development and commercialization of cellular therapies. This role will have access to executive leadership team and requires a leader who combines executive presence, emotional intelligence and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Builds Global Program Team (GPT) with accountability for disease area program vision, strategy and execution of pre-clinical, clinical and commercial stage therapy portfolio
  • Integrates disease area / product strategies and stakeholder insights into program strategy by developing strategic options to make the best trade-off decisions across the innovation landscape
  • Leads GPT to effectively manage, communicate, and mitigate risks while ensuring meticulous adherence to quality and compliance
  • Partners closely with Research, Development, Technical Operations, Commercial, Corporate Development and other G&A functions to ensure alignment on program strategy, priorities, timelines, resources, budget and deliverables
  • Proactively shapes the external environment to strengthen Kite position relevant to the program by engaging and building evidence and trust-based relationships with key stakeholders (KOLs, regulators, scientific societies, patient groups)
  • Represents GPT at governance meetings ensuring alignment across cross-functional representatives and management
  • Builds a trusted-advisor relationship with executive management and develops strategic vision, ambitions, and priorities for assigned disease area portfolio
  • Generates high quality, focused and proactive communication of program needs and recommendations to executive management including identification of program decisions at the portfolio, product and functional levels
  • Responsible for creating a high-performance team culture within the GPT through collaboration, coaching, mentoring and supporting talent development of cross-functional team members
  • Collaborates closely with line function managers in selection process and performance evaluation of program team members

 


Requirements:

 

 

  • 16+ years' experience with BS; or 14+ years' experience with MS/MBA; or 12+ years' experience with a PhD/PharmD.
  • 8+ years of drug development (early phase non-clinical and/or clinical development) and commercialization experience.

 


Additional Qualifications

 

 

 

  • MBA is preferred.
  • Experience with regulatory submissions and product launches is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of oncology therapeutic area with experience in diverse biological mechanisms
  • Broad understanding of the evolving clinical and commercial landscape in oncology
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills
  • Demonstrated success in influencing senior leaders and key stakeholders through excellent interpersonal skills, high EQ, and persuasion. Able to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Outstanding strategic planning and analytical skills with the ability to synthesize findings and articulate implications from multiple sources of information to formulate strong recommendations and uncover market opportunities
