Technical Knowledge
  • Applies technical knowledge of the principles, concepts and methods of scientific research to investigate a scientific problem


Major Job Accountabilities
  • Research Associate position in the Conklin laboratory at the Gladstone Institutes at Mission Bay (see www.ConklinLab.org). Project on human therapeutic editing in close collaboration with the Innovative Genomics Institute. Projects focused on the basic mechanism of DNA repair, DNA-excision with motor neuron, retinal, cardiac diseases as model systems. Strong communication skills, with a background in molecular biology and cell culture preferred. Applicants intending on progressing to graduate school are encouraged to apply, however we ask for a two year minimum commitment. A college degree and laboratory experience required.   • iPSC culture and differentiation
  • CRISPR genome editing

Independence/ Guidance
  • Work is guided by general instructions on routine work and detailed instructions on new assignments
  • Resolves routine and recurring problems within own work area
  • Uses discretion in prioritizing and organizing workflow
  • Ability to independently conduct a wide variety of standard laboratory techniques/procedures
  • May provide interpretation and initial analyses of results
  • Assists in designing experiments to complete a segment of overall research plan


Communication
  • Able to communicate verbally in a clear and concise manner
  • Demonstrates understanding of directions by providing regular feedback on work activities
  • Asks questions to gather additional information.
  • Maintains communication with other labs, committees, collaborators and external personnel
  • Assists with the preparation of technical reports, summaries and quantitative analyses
  • Collaborates with internal staff and external institutions and/or experts on research activities
  • Prepares and participates in meetings, presentations and scientific discussions.

Minimum Qualifications
  • BS/BA in a related field and
  • 0 years of related experience or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience
