At Bristol Myers Squibb, we are inspired by a single vision - transforming patients' lives through science. In oncology, hematology, immunology and cardiovascular disease - and one of the most diverse and promising pipelines in the industry - each of our passionate colleagues contribute to innovations that drive meaningful change. We bring a human touch to every treatment we pioneer. Join us and make a difference.

The Tumor Microenvironment Thematic Research Center (TME TRC) is focused on developing therapeutic targets at the intersection of tumor, stromal and immune biology within the TME with the goal of enhancing responsiveness to checkpoint blockade and targeted therapies. Comprising of scientists across multiple disciplines we are responsible for the biology and translational science necessary to support drug development from target identification through to first in human studies.

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented individual to join the Immunohistochemistry team in the Translational Development Group at Bristol Myers Squibb (Redwood City, CA). The Research Investigator will be part of a team dedicated to developing various tissue-based technologies to drive discovery programs and enable translational biomarker strategies in multiple oncology programs. The ideal candidate will possess in-depth experience in validating translational immunohistochemistry (IHC) and multiplexed immunofluorescence assays, antibodies, and tissue-based special transcriptomics. He/she will also have strong communication skills, ability to work in a matrixed-based, fast paced environment, solid problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to excellence.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Design, develop, and execute translational immunohistochemistry (IHC) and multiplexed immunofluorescence assays, and tissue-based special transcriptomics biomarker assays to support patient stratification, pharmacodynamics, deciphering the mechanism of action, evaluate efficacy & toxicity, and prediction of clinical response from early discovery to first in human proof of concept.
  • Develop and execute tissue-based experiments, including validation of antibodies, in preclinical models.
  • Identify and evaluate new technologies to support our evolving biomarker strategies including digital image analysis and deep learning.
  • Responsible for overseeing data analyses and delivery of decisional data of CRO-based projects.
  • Effectively collaborate in highly matrixed organization to drive advancement of early stage projects into translational and clinical development.
  • Act as a technical expert in his/her field and provide guidance for internal collaborators.

Requirements:
  • PhD degree with 4+ years of industry experience applying translational tissue-based technologies for oncology and/or clinical research (industry experience preferred).
  • Extensive experience in histology, normal and diseased tissue sample preparation, sectioning (cryostat and microtome), immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, and microscopy.
  • Extensive experience with chromogenic and fluorescent staining (mono and multiplex) on pre-clinical, non-clinical and clinical samples.
  • Expertise with manual/automated microscopy (Bright Field and Fluorescent) and image analysis software and platforms (ex. HALO, Visiopharm etc).
  • Tissue culture, flow cytometry, si/shKD and CRISPR-editing skills are preferred.
  • Knowledge of tumor pathology, cancer biology and immuno-oncology is a plus.
  • Strong track record of developing and implementing strategic initiatives to improve scientific and/or operational activities.
  • Experience working with service providers and CROs.
  • Excellent organization skills and familiarity with a fast-paced work environment.
  • Collaborative spirit and ability to thrive in a matrixed environment.
