Job Details

At Intellia, we are revolutionizing medicine by harnessing the power of genome editing to develop potential cures. We bring new hope for people living with conditions including cancer, genetic disorders, viral infections, inflammatory disorders and many more.

Intellia is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Associate Scientist to join our team. The primary responsibilities for this position will be to routinely prepare nanoparticle-based formulations at varying scales and characterize formulations using advanced analytical methods. Work closely with the scientists on lipid nanoparticle (LNP) design and analytical method development and perform analyses for LNP samples and drug products. Optimize existing analytical methods and formulation processes and generate standard operating procedures (SOPs) and test method documents. Conduct experiments, independently and in collaboration with colleagues in support of project goals. Design, plan and establish experimental workflows. Acquire and analyze respective data to inform decision making. Trouble-shoot experiments and instrumentation to reach desired goals. Communicate research and development findings with internal and external partners. Operate and maintain multiple laboratory instruments. Assist in maintaining general laboratory functionality, including lab equipment maintenance and the ordering and receiving of lab supplies.

Responsibilities
    • Support formulation efforts including optimization and characterization
    • Provide high quality, well characterized nanoparticles for in vitro and in vivo evaluation
    • Conduct experiments, independently and in collaboration with colleagues to support projects
    • Design, implement, troubleshoot and modify experiments to reach desired goals
    • Communicate research and development findings with internal and external partners
    • Operate and maintain multiple laboratory instruments
    • Assist in maintaining general laboratory functionality, including lab equipment maintenance and the ordering and receiving of lab supplies
    • Design, prepare and characterize nanoparticle-based formulations for delivery of nucleic acids

Qualifications
    • Requires a master's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Analytical chemistry or a directly related field plus five (5) years of biotech or pharmaceutical experience.
    • Experience with novel delivery systems including lipid nanoparticles and their analytical characterization
    • Extensive experience with UPLC/HPLC-based analytics and experience developing and running routine assays and novel assay development
    • Able to develop and implement SOPs for novel analytical methods
    • Experience with preparation of nanoparticle-based formulations at different scales sufficient to support in vitro and in vivo studies (rodents).
    • Experience in characterizing and developing novel drug delivery systems for nucleic acids, proteins or small molecules

COMPETENCIES:
    • Attention to detail
    • Exceptional time management
    • Effective communication skills (both written and oral)

What Intellia Stands For:

At Intellia, our mission is to develop potentially curative genome editing treatments that can positively transform the lives of people living with severe and life-threating diseases.

We push boundaries. We are focused on positively disrupting health care treatment of patients with genomic diseases. The values we live by and drivers we look for are:

- One is respect for individuals; our unique qualities and strengths; our own ways to understand, learn and improve. One is our single-minded determination to excel; to succeed together. One is you and us - trusting and counting on every single one of us.

- Explore because we seek new ways to tackle disease. Explore with unbounded minds...free from assumptions, open to ideas. Explore by staying curious, by pushing boundaries, overcoming obstacles. Explore means thinking of new ways.

- Disrupt by thinking courageously...and creating a better future. Disrupt by defying conformity; interrogating the status quo; questioning our momentum. Disrupt with challenging thoughts...with that breed of skepticism that shows you have better solutions.

- Deliver with your focus on the objective and your determination to complete the task. Deliver by advancing relentlessly and by maintaining high standards...even when nobody is watching. Deliver by staying accountable and pulling your weight. Deliver because patients are counting on us to make the promise reality. Get it done.

Company

Many of us pursuing work in the biotechnology industry are inspired by a loved one who is living with a disease or the loss of someone in our community. Rare genetic and oncological and immunological diseases not only affect the people living with often debilitating and life-threatening symptoms, but these disorders also significantly impact their families, friends and caregivers.

Our researchers work tirelessly to harness the genome editing technology CRISPR/Cas9 for human therapeutic use. Jennifer Doudna, an Intellia co-founder, and Emmanuelle Charpentier were awarded the 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for their pioneering work in CRISPR. We at Intellia are humbled to have a hand in making what we believe to be medical history. As a leader in this space, we take this responsibility to patients seriously.

We are employing a modular genome editing platform to create diverse in vivo and ex vivo pipelines, spanning a range of therapeutic indications. Guided by this full-spectrum approach, we are committed to making CRISPR/Cas9-based medicines a reality for patients suffering from genetic diseases and to creating novel engineered cell therapies for various cancers and autoimmune diseases.
