Job Details

The Facilities Maintenance and Engineering (FME) Directorate is responsible for laboratory space, administrative space, infrastructure, campus landscape, planning, and design, and construction management at Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervise a team of Laborers, Carpenters, Painters and Pest Control
  • Coordination and communication of all work orders and daily distribution and follow up of same
  • Coordination of projects with FME staff, external contractors under the guidance of the Facility Manager
  • Conduct weekly shop meetings
  • Participate, contribute / engage in departmental meetings and initiatives
  • Safety awareness, walkdowns of work for safety inspections and implementation of safety policies and procedures
  • Inspection of work for attainment of customer objectives, tidiness, quality assurance and safe work practices
  • Prepare labor and material cost estimates
  • Make recommendations to improve efficiency of operations
  • Continuous quantitative assessment of staff productivity
  • Creation and issuance of annual performance reviews
  • Direct interface with Human Resources on performance and employee relations issues
  • Provide after hours and emergency support when needed
  • High proficiency in data management in a computerized maintenance management system ) that tracks all work orders
  • Maintain control of inventory or materials and order and distribute supplies when needed
  • Adjust and operate woodworking machines
  • Schedule and coordinate outside contractors / vendors and all related safety requirements.
  • Ability to exercise responsibility in the care of tools and vehicles assigned to shops
  • Performs other duties as assigned

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of 6 years of combined experience in the following industries: Carpentry, Construction and Maintenance
  • OSHA 10 Certification
  • Ability to read and interpret, instructions, blueprints, and work orders
  • Experience with OSHA standards and construction safety practices
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skill, ability to motivate and coordinate all shop functions
  • Must have the ability to routinely lift and carry up to 50 lbs.; climb stairs and ladders; work involves bending, stooping and working in confined areas; potential exposure to particulates, vapors or noisy environment
  • Must have and maintain a valid State Driver's License issued by the state in which the incumbent/candidate resides for each class of vehicle to be operated on company business
  • Must have no more than 3 demerit points in the previous twelve (12) months or five (5) demerit points in the preceding thirty-six (36) months as determined by the Leidos Biomed Use of Government Owned or Leased Vehicles Policy
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in a supervisory capacity
  • OSHA 30 certification
  • Computer numerical control machine experience
  • Wheeled equipment operation experience
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities with attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills both oral and written

    for extended periods of time requiring medical clearance
  • This position is subject to the environmental conditions such as working outdoors, high
