Position Overview

Nektar has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Maintenance Mechanic to join their Manufacturing Team.

Responsible for mechanical service call and in-house repairs throughout facility and grounds. Performs work in one or more maintenance trades which may include HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general facilities upkeep. Performs routine equipment maintenance and repair. Performs installation of various equipment, systems and devices. Makes periodic or special inspections of equipment, utilities and premises to determine repair work necessary. May work from rough sketches and drawings. This job contributes to and supports the company's research and development efforts to create high value therapeutics to address unmet medical needs.

Works on assignments that are often complex in nature, frequently requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative as well as the ability to work cooperatively in a team environment. Recommends and implements ideas to improve efficiency and/or cost savings. Develops and executes PM/PdM/CBM for new or existing equipment utilizing manufacturer's data, experience or assessments. Perform preventive maintenance procedures on a variety of HVAC manufacturing and/or general mechanical and facilities equipment and utilities. Provides repair, fabrication, and general labor services throughout all areas. May provide oversite and direction to external service providers performing work on site, as needed. Provides training within specific skills to other staff members to ensure a broad base of knowledge within the group. Documents all work performed per the prescribed database (CMMS) system. Provides other miscellaneous facilities support as assigned. Will participate in the Maintenance On-Call routine on a rotating basis, for after- hours, weekend and holiday maintenance response.

Requires a minimum of a High School diploma, or equivalent. Formal technical education in a recognized skilled trade discipline such as HVAC or electrical is strongly preferred. A combination of technical training along with equivalent experience and demonstrated, comprehensive knowledge and competence in skilled trades may be considered in lieu of education. A minimum of 6 years industry experience is required. A minimum of 3 years experience working in Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, or similarly regulated industry is required. Thorough knowledge of applicable regulations or code is required. Requires a working knowledge of shop functions, with an ability to read and utilize complicated drawings and written specifications, mathematics, and a variety of precision measuring and diagnostic instruments. Requires experience in the maintenance trades, and broad general trade knowledge HVAC knowledge and experience is preferred. Strong attention to detail regarding documentation is a must. Requires ability to communicate effectively across a broad cross-section of functions within the organization. Must be able to follow Standard Operating Procedures. Good computer skills are required.

Employees must be able to lift or handle objects greater than 25 pounds to perform certain duties essential to the job function. Employees may be required to perform tasks essential to the job function in areas that require the use of hearing protection devices. Performance of tasks essential to the job function may require the employee to work directly with, handle, or otherwise be exposed to chemicals or pharmaceutical agents. Employees must be able to wear a respiratory protection (filtering face-piece, 1/2 face, full-face, or powered air purifying respirator, supplied air, or self-contained breathing apparatus) for certain tasks essential to the job function. Employees must be able to gain access to elevated work surfaces via vertical ladders or stairs to perform tasks essential to the job function. Employees must be able to maneuver themselves under 30 inch clearances. Employees must be able to able to accurately detect color and have 20/20 vision (with/without corrective lenses). Employees may be required to enroll in a medical surveillance program based on the potential exposure to certain health hazards encountered as a result of their job function.
