The Tumor Microenvironment Thematic Research Center (TME TRC) is focused on developing therapeutic targets at the intersection of tumor, stromal and immune biology within the TME with the goal of enhancing responsiveness to checkpoint blockade and targeted therapies. Comprising of scientists across multiple disciplines we are responsible for the biology and translational science necessary to support drug development from target identification through to first in human studies.

We are seeking a highly motivated, interactive and creative individual to join the Targeted Oncology Translational Development team at Bristol-Myers Squibb in Redwood City CA. The Senior Research Investigator will be part of a team dedicated to developing and delivering translational and biomarker strategies for oncology programs from program inception through First in Human. The Senior Research Investigator will work with a multidisciplinary team to build deep, mechanistically driven translational packages and will be responsible for the design, experimental execution and data analysis contributing to translational and biomarker research.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Establish and execute scientific strategy for understanding drug candidate mechanism of action and building target engagement, receptor occupancy and pharmacodynamic readouts that can be measured in clinical trials.
  • Develop translationally relevant ex vivo/ in vitro models to interrogate tumor microenvironment interactions and to inform clinical responses.
  • Design hypothesis-driven studies of human samples to inform pharmacodynamics, mechanism of action, and patient stratification/selection.
  • Apply relevant techniques, including high parameter flow cytometry, MSD, Luminex, Nanostring, and NGS, to identify and evaluate biomarkers using clinical samples.
  • Perform and manage in-house, collaborative or CRO-based research to support multiple projects.
  • Interface with clinical biomarker team to guide and develop biomarker strategy for clinical studies.
  • Effectively collaborate in highly matrixed organization to drive the advancement of therapeutic candidates.
  • Actively participate in internal and external scientific meetings through presentations and critical evaluation of both internal results and emerging scientific literature.
  • Act as an expert resource in his/ her/ their scientific field and train colleagues in established methodologies, troubleshooting and the development of novel techniques.


Requirements
  • A Ph.D. degree with 4+ years of relevant experience in oncology or immuno-oncology translational research. Industry experience is required.
  • Extensive laboratory experience in tumor biology or immuno-oncology, as indicated by publication history.
  • Deep experience in interrogating multi-parameter data sets including flow cytometry and next-gen sequencing (bulk or single cell) to test translational hypotheses.
  • Experience working with primary human samples, including designing and conducting biomarker and/or mechanistic studies.
  • Experience with biomarker discovery in industry, patient selection strategies, clinical protocol development, exploratory clinical trial assay development or data analysis of these samples.
  • Experience collaborating with Biomarker Leads on biomarker strategies and plans.
  • Familiarity with biomarker and companion diagnostic assay development and their application to clinical samples.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams as well as direct supervisory experience.
  • Passion for developing talent to build a highly collaborative and interactive team that uses novel approaches to solve scientific problems.


This position is located in Redwood City, CA and will be >50% lab-based. There will be less than 10% Travel.
