Job Details

The Imaging Sciences team seeks a creative and collaborative computational image scientist with a strong command of programming and mathematics. We are looking for a hardworking individual who can apply their expertise towards sophisticated biological research across a wide range of therapeutic areas including immuno-oncology, metabolism, immunology, cardiovascular, infectious diseases, and ophthalmology among numerous others.

This role will provide new capacity on our team for exploratory analyses of clinical trial image data and mining of large public data sets to inform efforts in Early Clinical Development. You will encounter a variety of clinically applied imaging modalities in collaboration with biologists, physicians, and other imaging scientists. You will be responsible for implementing both small- and large-scale image processing pipelines, combining techniques of classical image analysis with ground breaking machine learning / artificial intelligence (ML/AI) methods. We are particularly excited to increasingly leverage deep learning for robust image quantification, including for biomarker discovery efforts. In this role, you will also contribute to image management infrastructure for facilitating advanced computational image analyses.

In this role, a typical day might include the following:
• Advising on, developing, and communicating image processing strategies, primarily for analysis of clinical data sets
• Programming software implementations for custom image management and analysis tools, which could entail using APIs from commercial software, Python scripting, RShiny app development, machine learning techniques, and more
• Maintaining internal software repositories and documentation of internally developed image processing pipelines
• Performing quality control of image data and image-derived analysis results
• Producing analytics and data visualizations of image-derived analysis results, which may include simple statistical tests, various types of summary plots, spreadsheet aggregation
• Supporting proficient usage of both commercial and internally developed image analysis tools throughout Regeneron
• Some emerging areas of interest to which you will likely contribute include neuroimaging-based analyses to support target selection for RNAi therapeutics, and deep learning-based prognostication from retinal OCT
• Utilizing our proprietary project management software to track project development, coordinate requests, and prioritize tasks

This role may be for you if:
• You have outstanding critical thinking, attention to detail, scientific rigor, and strong analytical, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills
• You have the ability to shift focus between multiple projects
• A shown ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a larger project
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills,
• You have a positive demeanor and ability to learn new things
• You have a passion for biology and helping others, and a dedication to share, collaborate, and lift up others

To be considered for this role, you must have a PhD in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or Computer Science. 5+ years Python programming required; also, shown understanding of version control; experience with dedicated image processing libraries (e.g. Scikit Image, OpenCV, ITK); Experience in additional languages (C++, R, Matlab) a plus. Hands-on experience providing quantitative analysis for 3D in vivo imaging data (e.g. PET, CT, MRI.) Fundamental knowledge of medical physics as relevant to medical imaging. Experienced understanding of fundamental principles of image processing (e.g., image filtering, classic segmentation techniques, image registration.) Strong knowledge of mathematics relevant to quantitative image analysis (optimization, regression, statistics, signal processing, cluster analysis, general machine learning, etc.) Hands-on programming experience in deploying deep learning techniques in an image analysis context (e.g. with TensorFlow/Keras/PyTorch/etc.) Proven understanding of cloud computing, parallel processing (e.g. using SGE on a cluster)
