The DMPK-BA department at AbbVie is seeking a highly motivated bioanalytical scientist to join the LC-MS Biomarker group. This person will be an individual contributor in a small team whose remit is to apply LC-MS to biomarker analysis where it adds value beyond other analytical approaches - either in terms of operational efficiency or in terms of deeper biological understanding by way of increased molecular characterization.

The main function of this position will be to drive the development, validation, and implementation of fit-for-purpose LC-MS methods for exploratory non-GLP biomarker analysis. This will include developing methods, writing of validation plans catered to the intended use of the assays, conducting the validation runs, writing validation reports, and conducting sample analysis, both non-clinical and clinical where appropriate (non-GLP, exploratory biomarkers), as well as publication of manuscripts for novel methods/analytical improvements. Depending on the target analyte and the intended use of the assay, various LC-MS configurations will be used, including analytical, micro, and nano LC as well as low and high resolution MS.

Successful candidates will be fluent in the use of triple quadrupoles and Orbitrap instruments as well as multiple flow rates/LC approaches. As a large portion of the work is expected to be on protein analytes, a strong background in protein LC/MS out of biological matrices (e.g. cells, tissues, fluids) is required, and experience in quantifying post-translational modifications is strongly preferred.

Qualifications

Required Experience:
  • BS, MS, or PhD in the biomedical sciences along with 10-12 (BS), 8-10 (MS), or 0 to 4 (PhD) years of relevant experience

Core Qualifications:
  • LC-MS expertise with triple quadrupoles and Oribtrap HRMS
  • Bioanalysis experience in terms of quantitative mass spectrometry of analytes isolated from biological matrices
  • Experience with various sample preparation/enrichment strategies for monitoring low abundant target analytes
  • Liquid chromatography expertise across full regime of flow rates
  • Functional knowledge of various LC-MS data-processing software (i.e. Skyline, Xcalibur, Proteome Discoverer)
  • Experienced in protein quantification by LC-MS, with functional knowledge of quantifying post-translational modifications
