PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Occupational Health Services (OHS) program at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research at the National Cancer Institute at Frederick provides comprehensive occupational health services for all employees. Work is performed within the clinic providing occupational, urgent and emergency post exposure to biological, chemical, radiation exposures and operates the Research Donor Program. The clinic is open Monday thru Friday 8am to 4:30pm. In addition, OHS operates a clinic at the Advanced Technology Research Facility on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for 4 hours a day in addition to onsite clinics at offsite locations on an interim basis.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

This is a part time position

The Occupational Health Associate will be expected to perform a full range of health screening and testing techniques:

 

 

  • Respond to emergencies and render first aid
  • Orders and maintains clinical, laboratory, and first aid supplies and equipment
  • Maintains clinical and laboratory data in a computerized data system for employee medical records
  • Teach effectively
  • Administers the voluntary blood donation program for research protocols
  • Performs direct patient care including venipuncture, triage, EKGs, blood pressure, intramuscular, intradermal injections, point of care testing, fit testing, audiograms, pulmonary function testing, first aid, CPR, AED certification
  • Responsible for performing specialized administrative functions for occupational health services
  • Composes routine reports and correspondence on a variety of subjects
  • Provides assistance to the professional staff
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by a responsible authority
  • Participates in wellness program events
  • Will become a first aid/CPR instructor and conduct training
  • Work under the technical review of a registered nurse


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

 

 

  • Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Proficiency with venipuncture
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

 

  • Experience in the medical field
  • Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
  • First Aid and CPR certified


JOB HAZARDS

 

 

  • This position is subject to working with or have potential for exposure to infectious material, requiring medical clearance and immunizations.
  • This position is subject to atmospheric conditions that would require the usage of a respirator, requiring a medical clearance.
