Kite Pharma is seeking an enthusiastic, self-driven individual to join its process design team to assist in cell therapy process development focusing on final product cell harvest, formulation, Fill/Finish and cryobiology efforts and associated improvements to advance new, enabling technologies. The successful candidate will act as a subject matter expert for formulation, cryopreservation and storage of cells. They will consult with their manager in the design, execution, and analysis of experiments to drive the development of cryopreservation process solutions in support of the development of new T-cell therapies, together with associated technologies. This position requires positive, collaborative teamwork abilities, clear organizational and prioritization skills to help drive cross-functional initiatives focused on creating novel products and manufacturing platforms.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Education/ Experience

9+ years of experience with BS degree in a related scientific discipline. 8+ years of experience with MS degree with direct cell therapy process development experience preferred

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key responsibilities include:
  • Design and execute experiments supporting optimization of formulation and cryopreservation protocols and formulations
  • Collaborate with Research, Process Development, and external partners to design, develop and implement cutting-edge process technologies and platforms within a GMP autologous and allogeneic cell therapy manufacturing process.
  • Assist in identifying and implementing relevant existing and novel techniques / technologies required for successful formulation, filling, rate controlled freezing, storage, shipping and thawing of cell therapy products
  • Identify root cause of cryopreservation and formulation issues, and provide actionable feedback to improve processes
  • Participates on, and may lead cross functional teams or projects.
  • Clearly communicates ideas and results to stakeholders via written and verbal formats


Preferred Skills:
  • Strong expertise in cryopreservation of mammalian cells, preferably primary human immune cells / leukocytes
  • Hands on expertise in utilizing automated cell processing devices utilized for cell harvest and cell washing
  • Working knowledge of immunology or cell biology, together with and analytical techniques including flow cytometry and cell based assays.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced team environment, meet deadlines, prioritize work across multiple projects on a regular basis
  • Ability to lead and participate in cross-functional teams, meet deadlines, and organize and prioritize work
  • Expertise in statistical experimental design (DOE) with a proficiency in JMP, R, or SAS
  • Strong technical writing and oral presentation skills
  • Ability to learn new technologies and acquire knowledge quickly in the rapidly expanding adoptive T-cell therapy field
